FL To WN 737's Reg

Fri Nov 28, 2014 7:13 pm

Is Southwest re-registering all the ex FL 737s? I just saw a picture of a former Air Tran bird? Why would they re-register them instead just leaving them? Seems like a little much and a small slap in the face to those from FL.

WN is "attempting" to go to a more simplified tail number system, that's why ALL used (to include FL birds) aircraft joining the fleet are being re-registered

Do you have any examples of this? I have not seen any new registrations of any aircraft that were originally delivered to Southwest.

All new build -800's are going to be 8XXX and eventually all -700's will be 7XXX.

I thought they were keeping the regi, and switching the nose number?

All of the FL birds were delievered to WN wearing the N77** registration..

I do not think that Delta will reregister this aircraft N717JL. Delta does not change the registration on aircraft that have US registry that it acquires. Also, the aircraft is leased and the lessor would need to do it. I used to work for Joe Leonard in the engine shop at Northwest Airlines. He then moved up in management and then moved out, winding up with AirTran.

It's a matter of preference and company choice. It cost more to repaint the number than reregister.
