But there are many people - including me - who get to Istanbul on separate itineraries either by another flight or bus or train and catch their international flight from there. There is no way one can gauge the size of that, unless there is data on the point of sale for the outbound international flight.

And let's face it, if the gov't is considering extending the high speed train line from Ankara to the planned 3rd airport to allow for train to plane connections, there should be a sizeable market.

Thanks for the statistics LAXIntl. Ankara is really a small market. Looking at ZRH: 10.492. That is just 1 B737-800 every week which wouldn't make any sense.

TOP5 could be served 3 or 4 times weekly.

Looks like Borajet found some work for its 3 E190s.
Reportedly they will lease(operate) them for Anadolujet

Sure some people do what you do, but is this 5%, 10%, 15% leakage? Even if it was 50%, ESB international numbers are still very small on the grand scale of things.

With such direct airport HSR, the prospects of air service to ESB will be even reduced.
You would be able to leave downtown Ankara and be in Istanbul with access to the world likely in less time then driving to ESB, checking, waiting and then flying to Istanbul.

If France is any example, putting TGV station under Paris CDG killed many domestic air markets.
It has become much more convenient to go from downtown stations in regional capitals directly to CDG to reach the world versus flying from airports those cities.
If Turkey is speaking about linking Ankara with new Istanbul airport with high speed rail, I can definitely see many opting for such which decreases activity of Ankara airport.

on the other hand this again underlines the struggle Borajet is experiencing especially during winter months to make economical use of their regional fleet.

I also saw news Pegasus is starting up another airline - this time in Kazakhstan. I remember they were studying this about 2-years ago.
New carrier plans to be ready my mid-2015 with pair of 737s
I suppose they have good experience now having run Pegasus Asia out of Kyrgyzstan for a bit.

Supposed to be Ankara based starting in January on routes where the 737/320 have lower load factors. I have not seen a schedule yet.
Planes are also supposed to have an Anadolujet livery. Not sure if its a full repaint, or just sticker logos. Borajet colors afteral are similar to Anadolujet so might not need much changes.

Has any of the THY insiders maybe news regarding a possible new service IST-KSF? Germany´s latest airport is eagerly searching for its first scheduled carrier (besides some holiday flights of ST that is) and KSF is mentioned by TK as a future destination for some time now. Any ideas when it´s finally going to happen?

AF deferred the deliveries for quite a few 777s to be delivered in 2015 and 2016. I heard several rumours that TK was looking for late 777s as they will be heavily discounted to fill the production gap between the 777 and the 777X.

Now with with AF not taking their birds I wonder if TK might take a few more than the previously announced 7 77Ws in 2015. Any ideas?

I remember this information from 2012. NFIA ( http://www.nfia.com ) visited us when we started our subsidiary company in NL. This information was on their brochure. I remember this figure very well because list was as follows: UK, Scandinavia and then Turkey. I stated them that I did not know a country called Scandinavia and they admitted that Scandinavia was the total of 4 countries (DK, NO, SE, FI) and this was decision of upper management to present the list like that (!). I check NFIA web site now but could not find much statistical information. But I'll look in to this brochure, I'm sure I can find find it around and then send you scan as personal msg.

Announced planned route to Maputo, the capital of Republic of Mozambique pending aircraft availability.

Conversion of 8 Airbus NB options to firm A321NEO orders for 2019 delivery. Also amended 4 existing A320NEO deliveries in 2016 to A321NEO instead.

Some other TK tidbits:

The new TK domestic lounge at SAW will open tomorrow.

TK will now also on trial basis begin selling day passes at its lounges. Through March 2015, access to lounges at SAW(International side) and IST(domestic) will be available for 70 and 50TL respectively.
Access will be available based on occupancy, but less congested forecasted hours for the IST lounge are 1000-1400 and 1900-2330.
One little requirement - you must be a Miles&Smiles member to purchase the pass, but membership is free, so you can signup on the spot.

Would launching MPM really depend on aircraft availability...isn't tagging on to JNB better...as it will now have the option when CPT goes nonstop and the aircraft at JNB is then standing idle for about 7 hours

It would be nice to see them get something new, and fresh. Their current livery ( red tail, grey belly,etc ) has been around for quite a while. Does anyone even know what type of bird is represented on their logo?

A bit more on the WE'R campaign.

Turkish Airlines (THY), is planning to introduce and globally promote products specific to Turkey with the new brand "We're From Turkey" (WE'R), a new social responsibility project by THY.

As one of the most recognized and renowned Turkish brands in the world, THY will use its power and influence to promote fellow Turkish products. "This project aims to promote Turkey in a different way. WE'R is a mission brand, while we were selecting the products, we took hundreds of years of Anatolian tradition into consideration," THY Corporate Communication Chief Zeki Çukur said.

Çukur underscored that the main target campaign audience are foreign passengers. The selected WE'R branded Turkish products will be sold at duty free shops, which provide easy access and tax-free products to passengers, and also at upscale tourist locations. "In the second phase, they will be sold directly online through an Internet shopping website that THY will establish for this broad Turkey awareness project,"

In other recent good news for Turkish....THY was recently re-approved for travel to/from BGW for most US govt. contractor personnel. Not only will the trip to/from the US be much shorter than the previous sole option of EK or EY thru DXB/AUH but the fares are approximately half compared to a fares out of the UAE.

THY was previously an approved carrier but because of frequent service irregularities/cancellations, they were removed from the available list. They're back on the list now and if THY can maintain a fairly reliable operation, they'll surely be hugely popular option and based on the fares to/from BGW, profitable as well.

Has this been released in the UK yet or at least with subtitles? I'm not holding my breath about NatGeo releasing this in USA since it has nothing to do with Alaska.

I am flying to IAD in one month. Direct flight was too expensive thus I am taking TK to FRA, then onwards with LH. On the way back I have approx. 50 mins connecting time in either ZRH, GVA or BRU. Do you think it's enough or should I choose FRA on the way back too?

great video indeed!
this brings back memories when we kept on discussion about poor English skills of Turkish pilots (many years ago). Obviously, they haven chosen two 'native' English speakers for this video; however, in my opinion and in recent times the language skills - atleast understanding the PA - have increased.

Yes it certainly wont do them any harm. They are also quite open to tours around various aspects of their training and catering facilities to trade partners with regular tours.
