New AA Uniform

Tomorrow, Dec 02 marks the beginning of the uniform Road show at AA but we still have to see any official pictures of it.... Any ideas of when the official public unveiling of the uniform might take place?

I watched the company video on them. Very nice looking. Although all the models are 6 feet tall, pencil thin and gorgeous! Not sure how that will translate on our more "full figured" people. I'll wait till someone else leaks the photos as the firm has been jumping on ANY leaked photos out there! But in general, all are charcoal black. Pilots have double breasted blazers. Male pants are tapered. All gold is gone I believe. Now stripes and wings are silver. The female line is very "Chanel", accented with a silver scarf, it looks like. Agents I believe have a light blue (robins egg?) blouse and shirt. Keep in mind though, these are just prototypes and will start a 8 week wear test shortly. Watch for them in the airports and planes in early 2015.

I was talking to one of my friends still at Eagle and he said the new pilot blazer is now double breasted and a very deep charcoal gray. He also said the new flight attendant uniforms look great but didn't give specifics on them. I guess there are pictures up on JetNet but I don't have access anymore so I don't know what they actually look like. Hopefully someone can find some and put them up soon.

Uniform is charcoal grey. I like it a lot. Pictures should be up shortly on facebook if not there already.

I believe it was United that unveiled its new uniforms on actual employees, which was helpful to get a sense for what they'll look like on actual crew and agents. The models tend to also observe uniform rules to the letter. US-based flight attendants aren't exactly famous for following uniform and grooming standards ... look at how often you see Delta's (very snazzy, IMHO) hat actually being worn by a crew member.

Still, this is long overdue... when I think of AA's current uniform, I think of tired, wrinkled old sweater jackets and that militaristic looking logo on the neck (although the scarves introduced a few years back have helped a bit.) With the refreshed brand and paint scheme, a uniform change is overdue. I'm just sorry they didn't go for something more daring that incorporates the sky blue used in the new gate backsplashes.

I have seen them and I personally think the mens uniform looks very sharp. I am on the fence regarding the frmales, k do like the scarf for the females, seems like only one option and not too crazy. As long as standards are adhered too it should look good,

The AA pilot uniform has always had silver stripes and wings, at least back to the 1950s. The double breasted jacket left in the early 1970s and now it's back. I like it!

Thats a good start, but what about the pilot hats? I always thought AA should use a variation of the US Navy officer uniform.

I like the men's zip sweater. They overall look pretty comfortable.

Question for the flying public. I've frequently thought that US carriers should have a domestic uniform and an international, more formal uniform. Frequently on domestic segments the male flight attendants are the only men wearing neckties. Internationally, I think the uniforms could be kicked up a notch with more formal serving garments in the premium cabins.

It says those are one of the trial uniforms that was being tested by staff. I hope this isn't the real thing. A sweater jacket for a supposedly premier international carrier? Sure, it looks fine on the stylish models in the photos, but um... that's not exactly the body type you'll find aboard most aircraft.

They're on drugs if they think any of those senior longhaul cabin crew are going to wear that scarf. Maybe if they put a union logo on it...

Im a little disappointed in the pilots uniform as it doesn't stand out from any other airline. Oh how I would love a revamp of the the PA uniform.

While the FA dress looks nice and well tailored as its portrayed on the slimmer model, I will have to wait and see how it looks on portlier crew. Are scarves mandatory for female FA's? Are gloves ever provided as part of the uniform in cold climates?

One negative is the lack of any color. All gray?

The black on black for agents will be perfect for those days I need to attend a funeral directly after work.

Noticed they have nothing with short sleeves or a vest. Can't wait to check & throw bags & wait on a hot Miami jetbridge in it.

At least you have the option of not wearing your coat!

It's a definite improvement over the dated current look, but I really hope they add some color before finalizing the design. At least a touch of blue since it's on the backdrops and (soon to be phased out) ticket jackets.

Don't get your panties in a wad.. that link provides a mere 5 photos.. there are numerous uniform styles/variations shown on the employee's web site. As with ANYTHING posted on here, some will love it, some will hate it. No need in arguing it to death! Has anyone ever bought a ticket because of an airline uniform? Well, maybe with Hooter's Air.

Hmm, and quite honestly, while some of the mens' suits look very nice, I think I honestly wouldn't be sure if they were an airline employee or a passenger on his way to a business meeting. I think a stripe on the cuff, or some sort of subtle epaulet...anything to send a signal that this is a uniform, not just a suit. I think the pilots' uniform looks nice, and I think I want one of those overcoats!

I wouldn't expect a company that holds the name "American" within its titles to hold such dark contrast colors... Is that what the American way is all about?....oh wait
I Mean when I see a plane with red and blue strips on the tarmac I wouldn't expect to walk on the plane and see employees wearing black, It doesn't match the brand,name or make any sense.
And as said, You wouldn't be able to tell a difference from a male F/A and a business man.

However despite this... I do see this look growing on me within 5-10 months.
So far VX is the only one to put out uniforms that I have liked instantly.

Oh dear god in heaven. The smell of all of mine--years and years of reeking on board fluids and food have seeped into all of them and LIVE in there! I don't care if it's a burlap bag. I'll slap on a name tag and release the cart brake. Anything is better than the ones we are in now which, due to their longevity, could probably qualify to be displayed in a museum.

Amen! It would have been nice to have a variety of ages in the photos. For those of us over 50, striking a pose isn't what we do best.

But we have some really beautiful, senior ladies who will, as usual, naturally flow into it. It's very youth appealing and "stylish" and that's what it's all about.

The FA's uniform seem quasi-chic, but it needs a dash of color. A little color goes a long way.

I like it, different colours for different ranks would be nice, and maybe an inflight serving garment for premium cabins. On the face of it, for a tea set looks great.

except for the zipper vest too casual. And I used to be crew and am currently groundstaff. So I fully get the demands of both jobs, and in Australia with the heat! No reason a uniform can't be formal.

Like everything, the biggest most over weight staff member who is in their 60s can make any uniform look GREAT if they care about their grooming. Clean shaved, tie done up, with neat hair for men. And hair up off neck and face with a little make up for woman.

As cabin crew, I was speaking to the flight attendants gold wings and stripes. We have had gold forever.

I think it's a pity to loose those gold wings. When we started, we got silver wings. We got our gold wings at 5 years. Kind of a right of passage.

I like the new look, but as others have noted, what do these styles look like on employees who aren't models? Additionally, the look is a heavy winter look, what are the spring/summer options or for employees who work in warmer climates?

I just hope It doesn't hurt peeling off this old uniform. I have worn it so long I think its actually tattooed to my skin. I will actually be wearing this new uniform so I think I can give my opinion. I cant wait to wear it.... I love it.

The cuts are great.

The colors (or lack thereof) not so much. There is nothing about this uniform that says: "American." In fact, particularly for the men's suits, there's not much about it that says "uniform" other than the name tag. For the women's suits, they look like they could be business executives, save the nametag. At least the dresses look like uniforms.

They should feature some red and some blue, which are the signature AA colors. And I don't mean the pale, eggshell blue on these uniforms. They should feature the AA corporate red and blue, at least as an accent. There are design elements common to uniforms but usually absent from civilian clothes that could be used, such as contrast-colored piping, epaulettes, sleeve stripes, or monogrammed corporate logos. None of these seem to be present (except in the most subtle form) on these uniforms.

Given the stature of the design house that AA contracted to design these uniforms, I am underwhelmed.

OK, major inexcuseable generalistion ahead...

Why do airlines in the US have such dreary, drab, old-fashioned, boring, godawful uniforms?!

Actually, these are better than most but they aren't great and, as a rule, DL, AA, CO, UA, NW, US (all of which I've flown with) have had awful uniforms.

In so many fields the US is second to none in terms of service. But the airlines...?

Something strange going on here...

Very impressive. The cuts on the men's vests and color is a lot like the PMUA uniform that was scrapped. Seems like the quality is very high as well.

Could use more colors though but looks like they want to keep the styling very European and sophisticated which I appreciate.

The women's cabin crew uniforms look like they were made by a North Korean tailor. Shapeless potato sacks.. and the cream colored stockings won't look that good on crew with darker skin, I hope they're allowed to wear black stockings. The scarves are nice.

The men's cabin crew uniforms look sharp with a nice cut, but all gray does look a bit boring. The nametag is the only thing that says crew.

The pilot uniform looks very good, I like the conservative look.

So they're basically giving suits to all their male flight attendants ... Not very creative although the female dress is nicely fitted. I like the silver scarf they use which is reminiscent of the colour of the planes but beyond that the male uniforms are very disappointing. You can't tell if it's a crew or simply a business person. They need some red in blue in there.

I don't work for AA but the airline I work for is looking into getting new uniforms...I suggested something in dark grey or black. Ha! Looks like AA has beaten us! I like that it is NOT navy blue (US airlines are drowning in a sea of navy...gag!) but my suggestion for our company was to include bright pops of color to tie in with our brand, which is missing here.

These uniforms look chic enough, but color and AA branding are definitely lacking! Granted, these are only in the wear testing phase, this is not the final product, so I don't think everybody should be treating this as a done deal.

IMHO, if I were AA, I would add silver epaulettes, scarves with AA or flight/eagle symbol (whatever it is called these days) on them, or silver piping...maybe all 3 haha!

The uniforms are nice and monochrome actually looks really good on everyone, but what makes these uniforms scream American Airlines? They need a little something extra to really stand out for the brand.

I should add that Virgin Atlantic/America, Delta, & Singapore to me have really good uniforms that help immediately identify their respective brands.

I actually thought the 1991-2009 NW uniform was really cool. The red lapel extensions on the women's jacket were a brilliant little add-on that looked great and said "This is the Northwest Airlines uniform." The dresses also had piping in the signature red and the pants/blouse featured a red leather belt. Looked great.

The current DL uniform isn't so bad. Not wonderful, but at least it looks like a uniform and has some color.

The current UA uniform is nice...but it looks like they're either PA or KL. Wrong blue.
