VIE-BTS-VIE Almost Confirmed

Thu Dec 04, 2014 9:50 am

Hello all,

if confirmed, the shortest international flight (according to the PR) is scheduled to last 5 minutes and will connect Vienna and Bratislava. It seems that HG will announce this flight relatively soon.

I am intrigued how this route will perform (there is already a good connection to VIE via bus and rail). It would be nice to fly HG from BTS via VIE to other destinations!

As it is a positioning flight (HG announced flights between BTS and BRU), it is nice to see for HG to give us the opportunity to fly to VIE from BTS!

I am definitely planning to take this route. Anybody wants to join me?

Cheers

Andrej

Very interesting. I find it hard to believe that this will be a success. Maybe if they can tap into the OS network with code shares?

IMO the only way to BTS from VIE is by Soviet hydrofoil, 25 euro's and you get real airplane seats inside too  http://ff1.mosfont.ru/photo/00/58/76/58762.jpg

You forgot boat.
At least in the summer there is a ferry boat service along the Donau river that brings you from Vienna to Bratislava in about 75 min. Not bad at all. That is almost the same time that it takes with a car in a busy morning (done it several times).
Why would anybody go though all the stress of getting in an international flight (ticket price notwithstanding) for that short trip it appales me.
BTW are Vienna an Bratislava still the closest Capitals in the world?

Quite a short hop indeed. You can see the distance between the two airports if you hide the panel at left.

Yes I did not mention this. Despite the fact that a boat is a good option as well, but upstream it takes three hours of travel time. So it is a good scenic / leisure route, but not a fast one. Nevertheless, I recommend for anyone visiting Bratislava (or Vienna) to take this route. Downstream it takes about an hour.

Cheers,

This is a positioning flight. If they intend to sell it, it would be idiotic. Other than a few airliners freaks, no one in their right mind will fly it even at 20 EUR.

It reminds me of BCN-ILD with Vueling when they flew from ILD (Lleida). At least they could market it as the first inter-Catalonian flight ever.

As SCQ pointed out, its a repositioning flight (for BTS-BRU-BTS rotation), HG just gives us the 'opportunity' to be on that flight. As an aviation enthusiast, I welcome this opportunity.

I guess you don't want to partake on the first flight?

Wow. I do not believe this flight will cost handling costs.

The main problem is very big departing passenger charges in VIE airport.

If you are on international flight, following charges will apply:

Austrian Passenger Service Charge (ZY) €18.28
Austrian Passenger Security Charge (AT) €7.75
Austrian Air Transport Levy (QD) €7.00

So in total there is 33.03EUR pax charges. Even if Niki will charge you 1EUR, no fuel, no other surcharges, no credit card fees the lowest price without generating ANY revenues for Niki is 34EUR. Is 34EUR air-trip competitive?

If you're going to position the a/c anyway with a full complement of crew then every EUR extra you take is a bonus.

Most probably bts will be embedded into the hg and ab network via vie, so it would make sense, even only with a hand full of pax on it. And if they offer the flight at 45eur, that would be fun doing.

This is a really stupid route to operate with many other ways to get there which are probably cheaper (If NIKI is cheaper then im great with this service   ). Wouldnt it be smart to just make a base at BTS and fly to many other destenations from there.

I believe Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of the Congo) and Brazzaville (Republic of the Congo) are closer to each other. However as one online quiz app pointed out, if you wanna be pedantic about the two closest capital cities of sovereign nations, look no further than Rome/Vatican City

Ridiculous.

What is the alternative to VIE if they can't land there? I can imagine going back to BTS and sending you on a bus (or a taxi!) directly to VIE.

Brazzaville/Kinshasa possibly. You could argue that Philipsburg and Marigot on St Martin/Sint Maarten are the two nearest too.

Actually, it was AZI (Abu Dhabi Al Bateen Airport) and not AUH. Flight is operated by Rotanajet 3x weekly; however, they switched now to AUH to DWC.

Sint Maarten is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
It cannot be not considered as an independent country. Same with the French side.

I did say you could 'argue' that they are capitals. They are the respective capitals of each side of the island; there was nothing in the question which included 'capitals of independent sovereign states'.

Loading passengers is not entirely free. Even if they board from a remote parking, avoiding gate rental fees, there's still the cost of gate staff.

Because they don't fly VIE-BRU, or for that matter anywhere-else to BRU.

I can't imagine many people will take the flight for €75... Very expensive for such a short flight! I'd say little to no takers...

The bus costs about €7, IIRC. I rode it in August. It's very convenient. It runs BTS airport -- central Bratislava -- VIE airport -- central Vienna. The bus services run pretty frequently throughout the day. I stepped off a plane at BTS, walked through the terminal, and was on the way to VIE within 10 minutes.
