Quoting TW870 (Reply 1): The legacy carriers on the route during regulation were American and TWA. I see schedules with AA flying the DC-10 and TW flying the L-1011, but I cannot see a 747. |
Quoting BN727flyr (Reply 2): A quick look at TWA timetables in the 1990s shows no 747s flying LAX-BOS... in fact, no TW equipment of any kind flying that route nonstop. |
Quoting chrisjake (Reply 5): Didn't TWA actually fly a 747SP between BOS-LAX at one point? I'm sure it wasn't the 90s, but I could have sworn they did for a short while before then. |
Quoting airbazar (Reply 3): I could be wrong but for some reason I have this image in my head of an AA MD-11 departing from terminal C to LAX. That would have been in the 90's because I moved to Boston in 1990. |

Quoting CF-CPI (Reply 7): They flew SPs into BOS around ~1984-85. I think they went to Europe, but a transcon may have been added on. One of the SPs had a sticker featuring BOS. |
Quoting jfk777 (Reply 6): Did AA ever use 747 from Boston to LAX in the early 1970's ? |
Quoting TW870 (Reply 15): Does anyone have a schedule that shows TWA 747SPs on BOS-LAX or SFO? I know they flew them on LHR-IAD-LAX, and in various months on Europe/Middle East-JFK-LAX. But to serve BOS-LAX, they would have either have done a BOS turn out of LAX after coming in from Europe or New York, or would have done an LHR or CDG through flight at BOS. Doing a domestic turn out of LAX would have eaten up a lot of time on a fleet of only 3 airplanes. I would be surprised if they ran it like that. Although after the BAH route award fell through, anything is possible. |
Quoting WA707atMSP (Reply 10): What equipment did AA use on BOS-SJC? Did the MD-11 used on NRT-SJC continue to BOS, or was there a change of gauge to a smaller aircraft? |
Quoting cxb744 (Reply 19): Back to the original question, What about Tower Air? |
