Quoting LN-KGL (Reply 6): It wonders me why many of you use only Norwegian to name the carrier - after all you don't only say British for British Airways. The correct name of the airline is Norwegian Air Shuttle and this has been their name since 1993. |
Quoting TWA772LR (Reply 6): There's tons of people that refer to British Airways as British |
Quoting ERJ135 (Reply 7): For us oldies there was a time when British Airways was just British |
Quoting LN-KGL (Reply 1): It wonders me why many of you use only Norwegian to name the carrier |
Quoting TWA772LR (Reply 6): |
Quoting scbriml (Reply 9): Indeed. Some of us are so old they were even working for BA at the time! The change to "British" titles caused a huge uproar within the airline (far more than the World Tails ever did). Personally, it made sense to me - if you see "British" on the side of a big plane, you're not going to think it might be British Rail, are you? |
Quoting prebennorholm (Reply 4): Malaysian |
Quoting prebennorholm (Reply 4): South-West |
Quoting LN-KGL (Reply 13): But at that time there were two other airlines with British in their name, British Midland Airways and British Caledonian. |

It's Southwest, Jim. But not as we know it! |
Quoting scbriml (Reply 15): Likewise, the word 'Trains' is totally redundant on the side of Southwest |
Quoting Alnicocunife (Thread starter): Would there be such a stink if Norwegian was just called "Airline" and they flew all white plain aircraft while flying everywhere from many European cities? Low cost is low cost and others have done it without such a stink before. What would happen today if Laker wanted to start an airline based in Ireland or Panama or Liberia? Let the free market take care of the airline. It will IMO. Everyone wants a competition except when it affects them or is there a real good reason to not let a viable company try to be based in one country and never or almost never fly there? ***************************************************************************************************************************************************** Dude, There wouldn't be any STINK at all were this not an onerous Business plan. I don't care WHAT you call the airline. The flag of convienence isn't going to fly!! Nobody is going to buy that JUST so NAI can hire where it's the cheapest and STILL call themselves "Norweigan Air International". if Air Lingus did it in ASIA it would still be the SAME! Now the EU Airlines have "tumbled" to the SCAM as well as the USA. We don't care about competing, But we'r NOT going fot that! and it's not going to happen. And I wonder? Why Isn't NORWAY Protesting this?? I haven't seen anything where they endorsed this plan. WHY NOT?? |
Quoting LN-KGL (Reply 1): after all you don't only say British for British Airways. |
Quoting KiwiRob (Reply 10): Why don't you ask that question of the Norwegian press, they only ever refer to them as Norwegian! I don't know anyone who calls them Norwegian Air Shuttle, I'm pretty certain that 99% of Norwegians call the airline Norwegian as well. |
Quoting breiz (Reply 19): Maybe because Norwegian Air Shuttle call themselves "Norwegian" on their advertisements, commercials, ac, tickets, website and in the numeous e-mails I get from them. And the Norwegian press goes along. |
Quoting Ferroviarius (Reply 21): When US citizens talk about their home country, they often just call it "America". |
Quoting ERJ135 (Reply 7): For us oldies there was a time when British Airways was just British |
Quoting scbriml (Reply 15): Likewise, the word 'Trains' is totally redundant on the side of Southwest trains in the UK. I'm not going to confuse them with Southwest Airlines even though their colour scheme is nearly identical! |
Quoting prebennorholm (Reply 24): Now I'll have a Scots. |
