Congrats to QR well played. They pick up the perfect niche cities!

SYD is also due to bilateral restrictions, they only have rights for 14-Flights a week to main centres. PER & MEL, use all these rights.

QR will do well. Its the only ME3 carrier serving DPS nonstop, which is a huge market for the Dutch.

Yup! Only backdrop is the timing on the DPS-DOH-AMS routing which requires a full night layover in DOH...

TK has 4 x daily flights from AMS/IST and probably can connect to over 100 cities within 4 hours of those flights and probably most of them shorter in total distance flown compared to DOH.

This one is a surprise, I was not even thinking, but it seems a logical and good choice.

With KLM, MH and Garuda they can reach DPS in 1 stop as well.
Then it is not very convenient for anyone travelling that route. Phuket is another destination that will be non stop, bus schedule is not good for AMS connecting.

Don't forget AMS is a big cargo market also and in the future KLM cargo might not be there, so it will be even better.
Also very interesting is the boost in European flights for end of this year and next year in the network, so far, CPH, MAD, ARN, BCN, MXP, VCE, FCO, EDI, MAN, SAW, OTP, SOF, VIE, BUD, ZAG, LHR, CDG, many of the flights are getting more frequencies or bigger planes.

It does, but if fares are good a few extra miles are not a big deal. It's the same fot EK and EY, I know people flying from JNB to Australia via ME3 when Qantas and SAA can offer direct Sa to Australia.

Quoting Vladex (Reply 11):

It's one flight per day bus with 3 different departure times.

QR cargo already has AMS as destination. I just saw a QR 777F take off for Chicago from AMS on FR24

I wonder if these flights will have to move as the Qatar - Netherlands has always been 7 weekly slot pairs for a Qatari airline (regardless cargo or pax). Or does anyone know if the bilateral has been revised recently?

This is very interesting one, QR cargo has added some Brussels cargo flights lately, maybe they're planning to reroute some cargo thru BRU, but I think AMS itself is a big cargo hub to support a good revenue. http://www.qrcargo.com/images/Cargo/cargo_website/cargoonly.jpg

An A330? Do they have a lot of demand and no need for a longer range 787?

Despite the range capabilities, the 787-8 burns up to 15% less fuel than the similar sized A330-200. So there is little waste here, it saves QR a lot of money.

QR's aircraft choice will have to do with fleet numbers and cabin lay-out.

In June 2015 QR will have over 20x B788 and only 14x A330 of which many have F class, a product DOH-AMS will not offer. The few C/Y class configured A330s offer 274 seats, some 20 more seats than the B788.

So the B788 seems to be better suited to the route with 254 seats in C/Y configuration only.

Yup, AMS is not a premium heavy market anyway.

I thought the A330 would be much cheaper than a 787 but they are listed as the same price. Thank you for the corrections. It just seems strange to have such long range aircraft all deployed on much shorter routes. I guess that says a lot about a lack of alternative between short and long range planes.

Hope they keep the 777F coming though. Such a nice looking aircraft in their livery.

Wonder about this one, rumours persist that they want to take a 49% stake in TNT Express (TNT Airways ONLY!!) , so LGG would be a Logical choice for euro Distribution. lets see what comes.......

It´s not a waste, it´s still much cheaper to operate than any other plane. They also operate DEL on B787, it´s 3 hours only.

Qatar choose not to use the B787 in longer than 9 hours flights so far by not having crew rest facilities

After the big slap in the face to AAB from Cargolux now QR wants TNT?? why not to buy Martinair?? they could make it work with new fleet and get a nice piece of the cake out of AMS, Do you think AF-KLM would sell to QR??

QR Cargo has grown its presence in BRU from nothing last Summer to 7 weekly in the coming months. The reason is that they want to consolidate their cargo ops as their customers seem to prefer BRU.

I can't find it in the thread you mention (at least not for this year). Previous years they indeed requested slots (last year they even requested slots for twice daily flights during S14.....). Unless something happens they'll fly to AMS this year.
