It is nice to have created extra parking space but what is the point if the terminal can't handle the amount of people.
IST is ( becoming ) a disgrace specially for int-int transfers.

The terminal is also being expanded by about 4 more jet bridges. So they are working on all fronts

So this means even more planes.
but is the terminal itself (Transfer Security, desk, floor space etc) also getting expanded ?
I don't believe so and until then it is only getting more crowded.

There is some space actually where they could expand the existing international terminal...

What are the runway capacities?

I was wondering if anyone here knows the details on TK MilesandSmiles ElitePlus' "Complimentary Upgrade 2 x year" privelege. Can one request the upgrade on an upcoming flight or is this decided by TK? Is it on the day of the flight or you know beforehand? Upgrades on Long Haul included?
Thank you.

Found a lot of the answers here:

Hi man, its pretty simple actually , its the same as using your miles to upgrade, when you call to make a future booking ask for upgrade availability and then mention that you would like to use your comp ug instead of miles, zero diffrence between that and using your miles. I used mine no problem. They should give at least 4 if you ask me

For the last 2 years I'm not able to use this. Whenever I have a long haul flight, I always get an answer saying that "sorry, no free upgrades available on this flight". For example I'm now planning ESB-IST-LAX=SFO-IST-ESB flight for June 2015 and I've already received "unavailable" answer.

Well just like using your miles and UG seat has to be available. Speaking on my mostly IST-NYC experience there are just not enough J seats in TK 777's. There are never seats available let alone UG seats, but with the removal of Comfort(which I strongly disagree the cabin was too big) and the increased J availability things should be better.

TK has been sending TC-JJU every second day to JFK with additional 21J seats compared to the older 28 seat configuration

Ouch!!!
I was expecting Comfort to last longest on the IST-JFK route

After a quick search, out of the 4 new 77Ws with 49J/300Y seats;
3 of them flying IST-IAH, IST-PVG
1 of them doing IST-JFK, IST-BOM

Bloomberg says Limak Holdings will sign a EUR 4.5Bil loan package for the 3rd airport, which will be sufficient to cover the the first phase of the new airport.
Quoting LAXintl (Reply 98):
article mentions the first concrete pour will take place in March for the new airport.
Quoting LAXintl (Reply 98):
When opened the its reported the airport will feature the worlds largest duty-free complex at more than 53,000sq meters of retail space and employing more than 7,000 employees.

So it sounds like the airport is proceeding according to plans and the rumors of delays and financing problems were only that rumors.

I think its going to be on fantastic facility when complete.

I'm now at IST waiting for EK122 to DXB. Some observations at IST :

- I decided to apply for new Biometric Passport Control. Surprise : You need TAV Gold Card to use this new facility. I think TK should at least provide/sponsor this service for M&S E+ and/or E card holders. They say that after 6 month trial period this will be open to public.

- Another surprise: The longest queue is not at passport control or security checks, but it is at Visa Violation Office. This is our share from the Arab Spring I afraid.

- And yes, IST is very crowded and you have to try hard to find an available table at departures level.

- Rent A Car is also another nightmare which I experienced it today. As the international terminal car park is very busy, Airport Administration moved Rent A Car operations to a car park near Cargo Terminal. Getting there and back is very time consuming.

With the booming of rent-a-car business you would think that there would be a remote facility. It is still primitive , like the 90s.. (actually back then it was nice that they would drive the car to you).

Renting a car is not for the fainted hearted people in Istanbul. So I am not sure if we will ever see the rental car shuttle busses like we have them here in USA. Then again, I love the new metro network that I can get from the airport to home in one stop and in less than 5 bucks

I noticed it the other day, and I am very happy they moved it. With the way it was, it was a nightmare for departing passengers, during the weekends, the whole rent-a-car parking floor would be empty and the rest of the parking very full.

TK service to Islamabad and Lahore is A332 now instead of 738, some are suggesting it should go 777, is that possible?

Well, it is a result of the demand that is there. In summer season I guess we might see some A333s rather than 777, but it is not impossible
