Quoting 321neo (Reply 42):
According to CH Aviation, ''the Irish carrier will lease either N225AX (msn 30434) or N234AX (msn 30436) to cover the drop in capacity brought on by the cancellation of plan to bring back A330-200 EI-EWR (cn 330) into the fleet.''

I hadn't read that report. My understanding was that the B767 was planned 2 months when the EI-EWR plan was still a runner. It dropped into DUB for 2 days for a pre-lease inspection. My info came from EI engineering "she'll be back sometime after March" was the quote.

As of early Dec the plan was a lease for 12 weeks, with the B757 operating those 12 weeks ex-DUB. The CH Aviation article states the lease is for 6 months...why would EI need the B767 up until Dec 2015?

Quoting Aer Lingus (Reply 45):
As an aside, two A330s (DUO , EAV) headed down to BOD today for their check ups and presumably installation of their new thrones.

I saw that the B757 operated the late DUB-JFK for the first time today. Was trying to figure out which 2 aircraft were first to go. 5-6 weeks till their return?

Well not every airline is the same but Easyjet have absolutely terrible legroom with equally terrible flimsy seats. The Ryanair seats have plenty of legroom and are made of leather which is quiet comfy.

I always get the impression that Easyjet are trying to cram.

Apologies if this has been mentioned before but it appears (from Dublin Airport Wikipedia page, a great source) TAROM is ending DUB operations from January 12th.

It once held the monopoly for the route to Bucharest which I am sure did very well given the large Romanian population in Ireland. FR and Blue Air came along and surely diminished demand for a full service carrier.
Let's fly! Unless it's on a CRJ 200, then I'll stay down here.

I agree! Although I am Irish, I had avoided flying Ryanair for years, mainly because of their apparent arrogance towards their customers but also because of my perception that they were doing everything they could to squeeze as many passengers as possible into the available space and I always choose EI or BA for any trips to Ireland. A few months ago however, with no other suitable alternative available, I flew FR from Bristol to Lanzarote and I was very pleasantly surprised at the seat comfort and legroom which was quite adequate for the 4 hour flight even though I am 6ft 4ins tall. Undoubtedly this was helped by having non-reclining seats, which in my opinion should be the norm in economy class! Although Easyjet also have non-reclining seats and I have flown them to quite a few destinations their seating feels more cramped and slightly less comfortable to me for some reason.

It is, that's why. Believe they've two (A319) and three (A320) more rows than would be the same if you mapped Ryanair's pitch to an A320.

Only ever saw it a few times when landing back from ACE on the EI flight as it got in around a similar time. Saw their Skyteam livery on one occasion. The more varied airlines we see the better so whilst its not a major blow and most people wont notice it is a shame. I looked at flying them a few times DUB-OTP-ATH but it never worked out given the frequency.

About 60 people protest against Aer Lingus pension cuts

About 60 people took part in a protest at Dublin Airport this morning against proposals to tackle the €750m deficit in the Irish Airlines Superannuation Scheme (IASS).
The insolvent fund is operated by Aer Lingus and the Dublin Airport Authority.
Demonstrators said they were facing cuts of up to 60% to their pensions, or the equivalent of 30 weeks' income per year.

http://www.rte.ie/news/2015/0105/670...t-against-aer-lingus-pension-cuts/

It seems these 60 slipped through the net and no one to represent them.

I was lucky enough to get the Skyteam livery 737-700 back in September, routing DUB-OTP-VIE. The DUB-OTP flight was about half full, and I think I was one of not more than 2/3 other Irish onboard. Almost everyone was non-Irish. A lot of those on board also seemed to be making connections like myself.

The aircraft interior was quite dull and the food service was not great. OTP is a surprisingly modern airport, however, and a nice place to make a connection. I managed to capture the sunrise that morning, and getting the rare opportunity to fly an A318 which flies on the OTP-VIE route was a bonus!

Yes it seems so from others I spoke to who flew the route. From an Anetters point of view the main attraction to fly them is the A310. Some good opportunities to get it and not bad fares either.

"Welcome back", perhaps. KLM Cityhopper opeated a daily(?) AMS-BFS service with Fokker F28s, back in the 1980s. I'm not sure when that service concluded. At the time it was BFS's only scheduled connection to a non-UK destination, AFAIK.

They used to have a 3 daily BFS-AMS in the 90s which is when I flew them.Did they fly in the 80s too then stop? It was a good service and of course opened up the Province to a major global hub other than LHR.

Not sure the % now Im sure someone knows. Some interesting scenarios being mentioned on various media/forums. I guess IAG are getting as much as they can quietly and then a take over would be a lot easier. Im sure the Irish governments share could be bought if it secured jobs at EI and produced some more Irish jobs. Then of course doing an Ebay/Paypal/Apple move for a 12.5% tax rate   Might twist their arm.

Am I reading that correctly? Unless these trades occur multiple times a day, what is the point of buying such low quantitites once a week? With 534.04 million shares outstanding, this amounts to spitting in the ocean.

The Reuters article that OA260 quoted relates to 7000 shares, that is not a lot of shares. The total number of issued shares in EI is 534,000,000. This stake is 0.0013% of EI. These shares are probably from an ordinary punter who cashed in their chips.

I think that this being possibly an election year (though more likely next year), any deal between the govt and IAG for EI shares would have to include some kind of assurance in relation to EI slots. SF would have a field day if EI were sold to BA (as it would certainly portray it) and there were no protections for EI's access to LHR. The Midwest voters would certainly be interested in SNN's access (and no doubt the same would apply in Cork, for ORK). Then, of course, you have the fate of the FR shareholding as well (does anyone know what's happening with this?). Could end up being very interesting.

It seems that todays US723 from DUB to PHL was US Airways' final scheduled 767-200ER service to DUB, with aircraft N249AU operating the flight. The US 762 fleet is expected to be retired in just over a month's time, on February 11th.

PHL to DUB will now go 6-weekly on 752s, before being upgraded to daily A330-200s at the beginning of April for the Summer Season. The A330-200 will provide a 43% increase in capacity over the 762s. CLT will also resume in May with daily A330-200s also.

To sum up, quite a significant capacity increase from US!

It will be good to get shots of the US A332s still in their US livery; a good few of them have already been repainted, so there might not be too many opportunities. (Still, got to say ... the new AA livery looks terrific on the A330, or indeed anything!)

It has been reported on Today FM that CM will leave EI at the end of Feb, a few months earlier. Barrington will take over some of his roles until a successor is appointed.

A friend of mine told me a few interesting rumours today:
1) Qatar Airways will shortly announce a Doha-DUB service
2) a new service to Havana will also be announced
3) the Irish govt asked EI to fly to LAX but due to a lack of aircraft and existing services to SFO they refused, thus Ethiopian got the route

Bear in mind these are rumours

See EY48 stuck in Dublin over-night with some pax re-scheduled on other airlines. Fog in AUH or are there other reasons?

Is this a direct daily service? To Havanna?

Its only a rumour, so nobody knows anything really.

There was an article on the journal & a thread on boards about said article about new holiday flights to Cuba & Jamaica a few weeks ago, the upcoming holiday expo was mentioned in the article too so I wouldn't be surprised if something was announced during the expo.

Don't see regular service but a couple of charters a year. This type of routes have being a long time coming.

I would be delighted to see it if so! Just that Havana seems very far fetched to me, Jamaica and the touristy Caribbean perhaps.
my luggage is better travelled than me!

I remember two that diverted en route VCE-PHL last year, within a week or so of each other. Can't recall any since then.

Good news from NOC :

Knock Airport passenger numbers hit all-time high on British routes

More than 700,000 passengers used Ireland West Airport Knock in 2014 - a record in its 29-year history.

Getting a bit windy in DUB tonight. Looks like the EIR flight from EDI has gone around and diverted to SNN.
