The ''Dream'' Becomes Reality For Royal Air Maroc

Sat Jan 03, 2015 8:25 pm

Being one of the 1st customers to have placed an order for the B787 Dreamliner back in May 2005 Royal Air Maroc today has finally taken delivery of their 1st B787 CN-RGB !!
Royal Air Maroc has placed a firm order for 4 B787's + 1 option; 2nd frame is due in March 2015 whereas the 3rd and 4th frame are expected to join the fleet next year.

Royal Air Maroc will initially deploy the B787 to ORY, mainly for crew familiarization and soon after plans to deploy the Dreamliner on their scheduled runs to JFK, YUL, GRU & PEK (recently announced for summer 2015).

Their first B787-8 departing PAE on it's delivery flight:

B787 is one of the most beautiful aircraft around! By the way, will they fly the B788 to Beijing?

Looks very nice! Love the large screens, even those in Y seem to be quite large. Quite an upgrade compared to their 767s

Anyone know what config they have; looks like about 24 in C class, but in Y?

Magnificent aircraft; congrats to RAM ... they must be thrilled, after having waited for so long?!

How many is RAM now getting?

Hope they send one up to LHR the odd time!

Having a classic livery on a modern aircraft seems wrong somehow. It looks good on a 738 but not on a 788, IMO.

Still congrats!

The business class seats have an interesting high-low configuration, whereby the footrest areas of adjoining seats overlap, with one on top of another.

They were initially supposed to be one of the very first operators and had some of the terrible teens. However, they decided that they rather would have newer built aircraft that were not limited in capabilities so they took a delay to get later builds.

Coach on this aircraft looks very nice and comfy with huge screens. However, the bulkhead seats in J look cramped. Also, what about aisle access for those seated at the window? You still have the "coffin" look in business, so it's potentially bad news for tummy sleepers who sleep with their arms up by their heads. Whenever I fly in that type of seat, I still cannot sleep on an airplane. I would almost rather have a nice, comfy recliner with less privacy that doesn't make me feel as though I'm awaiting mummification.

274 seats on a B788 means its the biggest dual class configuration out there. Should offer very good economics on those 7 hour trans-atlantic flights to JFK and YUL in particular.

I wonder why the current Royal Air Maroc titles were changed to the old style titles before delivery? Reverting back?

Strange decision. Makes the "livery" look even worse.

From experience, often a livery tweak is signed off and sent to the paint shop or manufacturer (whichever is appropriate). Then, for some unknown reason that is rarely communicated to the designer, the aircraft appears minus the tweaks. I put it down to someone somewhere in the airline with great power getting cold feet and ordering a stop to the changes. Happened to me with a certain main line in the Bahamas.

Or, it could be as simple as RAM wanted to see what the change looked like, evaluated it on the parked 787 and decided against it.

Next time I have to go to Morocco (which is currently never) I would be thrilled to fly her!

Jan 9, 2015

CASABLANCA, MOROCCO -- Royal Air Maroc, the largest airline in Morocco, is celebrating the delivery of its first of five GEnx-powered Boeing 787 Dreamliner and selected a 10-year OnPointSM solution agreement with GE Aviation for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of its GEnx engine fleet.

I think Air India 1990 tail design would have suited them, with their own logo added to it.
