2 NH Flight In SFO Today

Thu Jan 29, 2015 4:45 pm

Hi folks,

for anyone who will be doing some spotting at SFO, there will be 2 NH flights arriving today, FYI

NH008 = ETA 09:37

NH1010 = ETA 10:10 >>>> tec stop for more fuel but that's all I know why.

enjoy

That's supposed to be eastbound NRT-JFK flight. I'm surprised they need refueling for such a flight.

ATC in ANC was down and rerouted, a/c didn't have enough fuel to make it nonstop.

Even if ATC in ANC was down, SFO is nowhere even remotely near the great circle of that route. Is the ATC infrastructure for polar/near-polar routings really this bad?

I'm doing some work at the airport today and just spoke with an NH gate agent who said the same thing - diversion from NRT to JFK. Both aircraft are on the gate right now, and I grabbed a few pics. Will post later today.

As said above, it was due to ANC Center. They are back and running as of 1030a (pacific). This also delayed multiple Asia bound flights due to flight planning.

1010 is scheduled out at 1012L to JFK

Quoting AviationAware (Reply 4):

Its because they could not fly thru the ANC airspace. We were advised of this divertion at SFO around 0700L

Even without ANC airspace, surely a diversion to something to YVR or SEA would add a lot less distance to the flight path ?

Given today's flights (comparing NH's NRT-SFO and NRT-SEA), SFO is a shorter flight.

Current easterly tracks are very far south today. This may be part of the decision. And we don't know what NH planning and staffing is. So it appears SFO was the best choice.

It's amusing how people always question decisions like this, like the airline didn't think about it. Maybe they have to do a crew change, maybe they just have better fuel rates in SFO, maybe they don't have the staffing at other airports to handle an extra flight. Maybe the SFO flight was oversold and they have seats available on this flight that had to stop anyways.

This is the absolutely the least likely reason.

One also needs to consider if our other NH flights were affected such as NRT-IAD or NRT-ORD. Perhaps those flights went to our other stations either SEA or YVR. That way it would be easier for everybody that the flights were evenly spread out rather than having 1 airport handle all 3 diverted flights plus their normal operating one.

There seems to be a mix of flights flying over the common routing across the Southern part of Alaska, a few taking a more polar routing, and the case of a couple flying pretty much more easterly across the pacific (including on of the the flights to ORD).

I agree. No one here should be questioning anything...if ANA thought SFO was best, then that's that. They have operational control on the aircraft and that's all that matters. Certainly not some a.net "opinion"
