Looks like they are going to wet lease 2 birds from Malasia Airlines and then convert them to dry lease. Is IST - SYD doable with them?
That would be some incredible news. But I doubt that it would be the reason for SYD
to be in that ad.
I did a bit of research:
at 9293 miles will be over 18+ hours and would be the longest route ever today by 722 miles.
The longest route record stays with QF
route with an A380 at 8578 miles.
Malaysia has 6 x 380s with 8F / 66J / 420 Y seating, flying from KUL
I highly doubt if TK
were to get only 2 frames from MH
, they will deploy them to SYD
will use them more than likely on JFK
or another established route.
I still believe TK
will open SYD
for prestige only with a 200-250 seat future plane. At two class and with high competition this will still be a money loosing route. Again, it will only be for prestige. It doesn't make financial sense, TK
can fill the plane with cheaper fares and many secondary connection destinations, but can not make this flight profitable.
On the other hand, TK
's own metal can do a one stop SYD
route with an existing TK
destination, that will work. IST
comes to mind first and then IST
