Wow, what a load of ......sorry but this is so kindergarten....sorry that insults the kids.

Clearly low cost design for a low cost airline.

Very disappointing and yet another pointless update to a livery.

Let's keep in mind that the update is largely to be inkeeping with the easyGroup brand guidelines, which first and foremost require white text on orange background. Apart from the number on the side of aircraft being replaced by the .com, the livery has otherwise been largely unchanged since easyJet was started in 1995. The brand guidelines were published after this (brand manual on the right hand side of the page): http://www.easy.com/the-brand.html

I really don't see anything wrong with the livery. It's nothing great but it isn't bad.

Crisp, sharp, different from the competition and matches up with the rest of the new corporate branding.

Does what it's meant to.

There was nothing wrong with the previous livery though the new one looks very catchy. I agree here with Miami and BlueShamu330s. The word that pops up in my mind is "distinction". Nice easyJet!

I am surprised there are still people who think branding and liveries are unimportant in this day and age but oh well..

For me I wanted to like it because it is not all white like half the new liveries however the shapes/lines/format just make no sense. I dont understand the pointed swoosh and why the line ends there looking incomplete and just arghhhhhhhh. I dont get it...

New EasyJet Livery Unveiled

Wed Feb 04, 2015 1:06 pm

I LOVE THIS NEW EASYJET LIVERY !

Now that's easy on the eye! easyJet has unveiled a distinctive new aircraft livery to mark its 20 anniversary. This is the first time the look of the low cost airline’s iconic orange and white fleet has been changed since easyJet.com replaced the call centre number on the fuselage back in 1998. The main changes see the trademark orange paint extended from the tail fin on to the fuselage to create space for a bigger logo, a new orange stripe introduced on to the fuselage and the '.com' has been removed. All new easyJet aircraft deliveries from April will get the new look – it has 197 AirbusA320s on order, the majority of which will replace older Airbus A319s currently in the fleet.
Younger planes in the fleet will have the new livery applied when they ‎are scheduled to be repainted, typically every six years. The carrier expects 29 aircraft will be flying with the new look by the end of 2015 and 50% of the fleet will sport the new livery by the end of 2017. It takes around seven days on average for a specialist team to repaint a plane.

EasyJet commercial director Peter Duffy said: “easyJet’s aircraft livery is one of the most recognised in aviation. As we approach our 20th birthday in November, we felt a refreshed livery would complement the many changes already made to easyJet including allocated seating, transparent prices, flexible tickets and our award winning mobile app. “As you would expect from easyJet this is a low cost makeover – all our new planes will be painted with the new livery, but we’ll only re-paint the old ones as needed. It could take five years for all the fleet to sport the new paint job! Like easyJet itself, we wanted our livery to be as relevant for the next 20 years as it has been for the past twenty. The final design was selected by nearly 4,000 staff and customers.”

The airline was founded in 1995 by businessman Stelios Haji-Ioannou with just two leased aircraft flying from Luton to Scotland. Now it carries more than 65 million passengers a year on 700-plus routes from 130 airports across 32 countries.

I guess it is all about angles with photos, The second photo you posted there doesnt make it look so bad owleye. It will be interesting to see what they do with special liveries. Will they fit them into the white space at the rear of the fuselage, That could look decent. Maybe they will give up on them all together. It is better than the previous though atleast.

It would have been much better if they used it in combination with different tones of orange, like they do on their website.

However, the new livery reflects the rebrand and the new appearance of the easyjet website with its angles and triangles.

As such, it completes the package and should be considered a success.

A livery is not to be judged in isolation.

A 70ies livery would have suited U2 very well. A simple orange cheatline the full length of the aircraft. The easyJet name is already in a font that alludes to the 70ies. And bring up imagery of joyful hippies from the 70ies, smoking grass and whatnot, and presto you have a livery which strikes a nerve with U2's customer base.

Orange is nice! The biggest mistake that many airlines make is to use a blue-red branding. Except for British Airways, that is often a very boring and old-fashioned color combination.

Here's a pic of a partially completed livery, and I actually like this. I know some of you will say it looks unfinished too white.

There are some rules with the livery. Apparently the "Easyjet" has to be written in white on Orange so that livery would not be allowed. Some dispute with easygroup etc blah blah zzzzzz. That is the whole reason for the sash, I just wish it was less pointy or connected to another bit of orange.

You got it!

The reasoning behind the design...

Quote:
Thanks to over 3000 of you who voted for the new design for our aircraft - it was great to see how passionate you've all been about it. The winner, with an overwhelming majority, was option 1. We’ve also researched it with customers and the results were almost exactly the same.

About 4% of you either didn’t like the proposals or provided suggestions for amending the designs. Many of the suggestions had common themes - why we hadn’t changed the font, used our 500 route graphic or why we’d used a single colour.

So to put the final design into some context there were a number of parameters that had to be met and these included:

· No font change because the name ‘easyJet’ is licenced to us from easy group.

· No significant increase in the cost of the livery paint application or increase in the downtime of the aircraft in order to paint it. Adding colours/shades or complexity into the design would have increased both cost and downtime.

· And finally we were asked by easy group if we could reverse the colour of the logo on the fuselage to bring it in line with our brand licence agreement whereby easyJet always appears white out of an orange base.

As mentioned before, design is very subjective so it was great that the overwhelming majority of our people and our customers had a very similar perspective. Thank you for getting involved in leading the decision. You’ll start to see the new design across the fleet soon.

Design 1: 49%

The people could only vote yes or no, so to say. Only when you have five, seven or even ten alternatives, your choice really reflects your taste.

This mockup was actually done by my other half when he had a spare 10 minutes, and Tweeted it to easyJet! A slightly nicer looking one with CFM engines was done a day or so later: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B5fhQY-CIAA1oNW.png:large

Without wanting to sound biased, I too would have sooner seen this on the side of their aircraft.

Considering what they had to work with, and with the all important consideration for cost and downtime, I think they've done a good job with the final product.

Looks great, and I love the "routes 500" graphic but it probably doesn't fit the brief. Broadly speaking this will have been...

Simple
Easy and quick to apply
Cost effective

Given that, I don't think it's a bad result. If you want to splash the cash and don't mind your assets sat in the paint shop for longer than needs be then it could have been better but easyJet is incredibly disciplined when it comes to cost and efficiency. Many don't really appreciate that.

Thats still worthy and an acceptable change if they had opted for it, too bad EZ didnt see their most iconic LCC brand in the world really didnt need dressing up.

LCC concept might have been started by Southwest and made more affordable by Ryanair but only Easy made it stand out with their brand identity from the phone number to the .com, atleast I for one only got to know what an LCC is through the arrival of Easyjet on the scene, and that too due to its livery, now its just like another airline.

I appreciate any livery, no matter how grotesque I might think it looks on its own, as long as it's unique...even the new AA one. I think this livery will serve its purpose of brand recognition very well.

As for 'why change livery?'...every few years, planes have to be painted anyway, so there's not necessarily a ton of increased expenses to change livery at the same time...just to spruce things up.

On the other hand....there actually is an attractive way to do orange and triangles;

What the...?
