Right. Waiting for the GoPro video. Time lapse not required

DUS has quite some influence in the area. Of course the 'Ruhrgebiet' but the Netherlands are quite close as well, so maybe even for the Dutch people an option to fly to SE Asia

Quite true. many Dutch folks (mainly from the south-east though) already use DUS regularly for European flights. Living close to the city of Tilburg, my wife and I used it several times for flights (business and leisure) to VIE, MAD and SAW.
So I'm quite sure that this is attractive to many Dutch people. I do think though, that those will mainly be cannibalized from their own AMS flight though, which more or less uses the same timings:

AMS-HGK - 13:10 - 06:20
DUS-HKG - 12:35 - 06:55

HKG-AMS - 00:15 - 06:40
HKG-DUS - 00:50 - 06:40

The award seats have already been loaded ... i'm actually contemplating a HKG-DUS-JFK itinerary with a 3:05 connection

90 Minutes was easy with an Audi 80 2.8 V6. (Apart from the empty tank, but fuel was cheap..)

BMW 5 Serie, no worries.

But for long haul passengers from Düsseldorf, the Autobahn to Frankfurt is not really so important - those people either fly or

It depends on where you start from . When you park at FRA check the licence plates, you find NL, L F plus a lot from Northrhine Westphalia. I once flew MGL-LTN and return and was off home 5 minutes after I left the aircraft at MGL.

CX will enjoy a large catchment area for that flight, overlapping due to the closeness of FRA.

HKG-DUS - 00:50 - 06:40

Strange flight times. Why is AMS-HKG be 70 minutes longer than DUS-HGK, whereas the flight from Hongkong to AMS is 35 minutes longer than the flight to DUS?

Wind/direction DUS-HGK and AMS-HGK is the same, so that does not explain 70 minutes difference for 43miles more distance - even if an allowance for taxiing to the Polderbaan has been made.

The taxi time from polderbaan is longer. DUS is touch down, roll out, terminal, all in 5 minutes.

I am talking about DUS/AMS-HGK, not vice versa. Plus, as detailed above, then why is for the westbound flights HGK-AMS/DUS the AMS service 35min quicker than the DUS service - despite 43 miles more to travel and the Polderbaan. Some figures simply do not add up here.

I think the other thing is that with the ME airlines flying to DUS, people will now be aware that you can fly long haul east bound from there. CX can taje advantage of this - that people won't just automatically search, say, FRA-JKT but will be aware that you can fly DUS-JKT
