Will TPA Ever Get Service To Mexico?
I was wondering if TPA can attract a carrier like interjet, volaris, or even aero mexico. I believe AM served tpa before. With the current management at tpa, bringing in CM, LH, Edelweiss in recent times,I wonder what itd take to court a mexican carrier. If I remember correctly, B6 had CUN service before.

Circa 1973 - Pan Am 707 service between Tampa and Merida four times a week. Dropped by 1979.

Esstern served TPA-MEX with widebodies at one point. They originated in Miami IIRC.

In effect, the OP is asking if there will ever be service to a 3rd-tier, non-hub U.S. airport from some Mexico destination. Sure - why not? F9 has CUN-STL in the schedule for tomorrow, along with CUN-CVG. DL has CUN-MKE, CUN-BDL, CUN-CMH. Tampa residents may lack desperation to escape winter, however. (CUN and MEX are the top MX origins to the U.S.)

I am not sure if MX at some point flew to TPA with 727s.

DL currently serves TPA-CUN seasonally and has been for at least a couple of years.

Pan Am had a MIA-TPA-MEX. Boeing 707 til 1979.

So let me ask this, with the hispanic population In west central Florida, would a year round service to say mex, be feasable. Surely the route could work on a E175 or 190. What would it take to maybe lure AM here, or volaris or Interjet?

Isn't the Hispanic pop'n in the area primarily of Cuban descent? I'm sure flights to HAV and other cities on that island would be the more popular.

If there were a market someone would have flown it. Interjet is an interesting possibility. I want to fly on the 100!

Exactly. Very little of Mexican heritage. CUN is a tourist destination. While I remember in the 70's ACA was extremely popular my impression is that it is far less so now. A lot of Americans are afraid of the crime statistics. Sun destinations rarely are profitable--they are served by reason of necessity and to make the travel industry happy. Air fares built into package tours are minimal.

This, and add Puerto Ricans and Dominicans to that mix. The Mexico demand from TPA has been historically to the beach destination of CUN. As mentioned by Adamh8297, DL has a seasonal Saturday service to CUN from TPA. If AM ever serves TPA, it would likely be to CUN, whereby it can offer additional connection points to non-beach Mexico markets in addition to catering to the tourist traffic.-

I was always under the impression that there is a very large mexican population in the plant city, bone valley area. I cant remember where I heard it from, but it is one of the largest groups of mexican immigrants in the country
