Just saw this on twitter , lufthansa has a 747-800 that they have painted in a retro livery.

The Blue cheatline looks a lot better then the All White currently on the LH planes save the tail. Very Classy LH, very Classy.

That's one gorgeous LH 747. I miss those black radomes on aircraft, as well as the signature cheatline.

I wonder why the " Retro" liveries are so popular?

Perhaps thy aren´t that bad after all??

Or perhaps some companies like to be reminded of the "good ole days"?? But I guess the companies don´t really like the good ole days- but believe the customer likes to remember - and buys some additional tickets??

Well I as an old customer do like to remember the good times- unfortunately it takes a bit more than a bit of paint to bring them back though....

Still speechless. I just fell in love. Very beautiful, a bit of the good old times. Makes me remember when my family and I went to the Frankfurt T1 observation deck in the early 80s and saw the numerous Jumbos of Lufthansa, PanAm and Transworld.

That is SOOOO beautiful!!!! Brings back my wonderful cherished childhood memories when the mighty 747 brought the German flag to the remote corners of the globe (and stopping about 5 times on the way).

This is not a 747-8i. This is a freaking 747-830!

I said the same in the 747-8 production thread. If you're going retro, why not all the way retro? This one looks good, but it could have been GREAT!!

I don't see why they couldn't use the bare metal belly, since the 747 is still aluminum. Maybe it would've been cost prohibitive to polish a one-off plane every once in a while?

skins for polished a/c are fabricated from different materials and subject to special treatment during forming.. It's not as simple as just buffing a regular skin.

I Agree entirely! Bare metal it should be! Apparently, Qantas had a similar issue with it's recently revealed 737-800 retrojet.

Lufthansa should be congratulated! Firstly, actually launching the 747-8i, then the marvelous 'Siegeflier' (or however it is spelt, lol) and now this retrojet! Well done, Lufhty!

Now please, can we have a one-off charter flight or something to Australia? Please please please!

Wouldn't be much of a retro since the A380 is relatively new compared to the 747.

Besides. Lufthansa didn't have the A380 back when the retro livery was around. The 747 was.

It only makes sense to put the retro livery on the 748.

Airbus's A380 is never going to match the 747 in numbers built. It might be big, but it won't be around as long as the 747 has been. I do not dislike the A380, but it has a limited market just like the 747i does now. Also Boeing may be building 747Fs ten years from now. They can be ordered with nose doors. The A380 will never be a freighter.

The A321 is pretty new too and that didn't stop LH from putting a retro livery on it.

The A380 is like any "big boned" woman: sometimes she looks sexy, other times she looks less than flattering, and which one you get in your picture is heavily dependent on the pose, the angle, and the lighting.

But I'd love to see a 380 with a polished aluminum bottom.

HA! That's a laugh and a half, that is!

Sorry, the A380 is just ugly. If they ever get to the A380-900, proportions in mind, perhaps we'll look again.

But that's okay, looks aren't everything. I'll always consider the A321 and A350-900 to be the best looking of Airbus' portfolio.

None of the 744s had the old scheme, so it was changes from the 742 to the 748 that are important. I've read conflicting pieces saying the material is slightly different (or not), it would be good to hear from people more in the know. What has changed though, is that the cost of polishing it has become relatively more expensive as paints have improved, so more airlines paint their planes. Even AA gave up on it eventually.

From what I can see this livery looks very beautiful IMHO.

I like the shade of blue used...

However, I need to see more pics of the tail because I don't know if the usual tail would go well with this blue...
