I'm guessing MSN005 is being used to "test the fit" because it's available, even if it already has engines hung.

I assume that the tents will do some S20 work and engine install will be done in S20, that I assume still exist.

Airbus does not always build aircraft in sequence. MSN8 was loaded into final assembly after MSN10.

If it was not for the same customer I could see some priority/penalty reasons.

Wasn't there an earlier version of the production list that stated that MSN8 was supposed to go to SQ which at the time already seemed weird to have a lone frame among QR batch. Maybe it was true and last minute change caused a bit of a delay?

MSN8 was re-assigned from SQ to QR hence the longer lead time on customer parts.

The most interesting thing about this is that the MSN number appears well down the road, after the earliest 3510s, whereas as of a year or so ago the first planned 358 was in front of the 3510.

It may mean nothing, and MSNs do not correlate 100% with build sequence anyway, but it may also mean that Airbus is keeping some form of 358 concept "warm".

I recall Leahy floating an idea of stretching it a little to a bit closer to the 359. To be a viable option, that would have to offer something special in terms of payload / range. Maybe an "F" / ULH, especially given that nothing has yet been said about the future of the 332F after 330 production standardises on the neo.

Whatever we all know to be the reality, Airbus are still carrying 16 firm A350-800 orders on their books. They may therefore have some sort of contractual or even legal obligation to at least pretend that the programme continues to exist.

Who have the A358s on order? And how are the stations numbered? I get how the 787 lines are numbered, but I still don't get the A350 stations.

It could simply be that with the reduction in -800 orders, the ones that are left are for slots further down the road than originally envisaged. No need to bring them forward, as that is making work for ones self (in the event the -800 does get built and certified).
