Here is the application:

Very interesting they picked NKG over HGH

Now we just need someone to do CTU-LAX (should be Sichuan air but they lack nonstop equipment)

To my knowledge A333 only does domestic/regional ops at MU.

Also does A333 model even have range? NKG-LAX is almost 11000km!

First off, It's CTU-NKG-LAX not NKG-LAX.

NKG-LAX is about 10,590 km. The A333 has a max range of 11,300 km.

I'm very skeptical of it being a 333, given that NKG-LAX is about 6580 miles, and that's longer than the longest 332 route which I believe is SEA-HKG.

Of course I meant CTU-LAX nonstop. The domestic tag hardly matters.

I would venture to guess that there is a subsidy of some type from Nanjing to start service to the U.S. . Just like Wuhan subsidizes their CZ route to SFO.

Possible, but I actually don't think there necessarily needs to be a subsidy at all for that route. They obviously have DL at LAX, but they also do have quite sizeable operations at NKG as a focus city, so there's comprehensive connections on both ends for it. Seems like a winner.

Was discussed a bit in this thread.

If approved as proposed, schedule would be something like this:
NKG - 14:15, LAX - 11:00
LAX - 13:30, NKG - 18:45

3x p/week - Tue/Thu/Sat - is the proposed frequency

A33E (A330-200) is the aircraft type

DTW-NGO is the longest current A332/A330 flight.

Unless MU is reconfiguring its A333 fleet with longhaul seat product, it will be the A330-200
Today the A333 does things like ICN, NRT and domestic hops

Add in westbound headwinds, you are adding about 1000mi/1500km to the trip. Too far for an A333 unless you want to leave lots of seats empty.

DTW-PEK is actually the longest current A332 flight - at least being operated by DL.

DTW-PEK switched over from 777 to 332 at the beginning of the Winter schedule. DTW-PVG is still a 744.

Check the flight status; it's been a 332 for a while.

As more and more Chinese airliner operator switching to direct flight to USA, it could be a threat to the traffic for CX and KA where I think they have quite some feed from PRC to HK and then to international destinations.

Based on an analysis I've seen, the China pie itself is growing so fast that there is plenty of demand to go around for all players.

Look at the CX/KA network to China, with 20 odd destinations they still offer one of the best means of access anyone has plus obviously there are big underlying O&D demand to HKG itself they service as well.
