The little sucker could have come onboard in a carry on, camera bag or even a woman's purse. They crawl into everything. And once something like a house is infested with them, they can be difficult to control.

Scorpions freak me out more than any other creature, and I've heard that they inhabit the whole world. I'd imagine not in the poles, though.
I know that some people have "pets" like scorpions, snakes, and spiders. I wonder what the airlines would consider unfit for caged-transport below, and within the passenger cabin. Imagine somebody walking onto the plane with a caged tarantula that has its own boarding pass, then plops the damn thing down onto the seat next to you

My friends down in Mexico say that if you have a gecko/basacon (not sure on spelling) you are in the company of a good friend. If you have them in your hotel room or house, LEAVE THEM. You have scorpions. Once they clean the place out, they'll move on to another place all by themselves.

Well I have seen a lot of transitions and older WN A/C with rat/mice infestations so something that small doesn't surprise me. I'm more surprised something like this hasn't made the news earlier since the press loves to dog the airline industry every chance they get.

Most scorpions stings won´t kill you. They´ll give you a fever and flu like malaise for maybe 36 hrs.
But they hurt LIKE HELL. You´ll really wish they´ll cut the limb off where you got the sting.
One of those things sting you? Your business trip is ruined, or your 7 day package holiday just lost 3 days.
They may kill a young kid, that makes them dangerous.

Well, I really couldn´t tell you. Except that you should not be surprised to find them in Mexico City, which is at 2,250 mts. AMSL, so I bet they can go higher than that. Now, it would be a very, very rare thing to find a scorpion in Mexico City, but not due to altitude, rather than to urban development and habitat destruction.
You can find them in Zacatecas, much more abundantly, and they are at 2,500 mts. AMSL
I´m sure they are nothing rare in Bangkok.
And again, MOST are not dangerous (in the sense that they´ll kill you) except if you are a very young kid or a an elder. The sting just hurts like there´s no tomorrow. I´ve been stung twice and boy is it painful. REALLY painful. They produce hyperalgesia.
Taught me to wear work gloves for sure.

I've been told we do. I'm amazed at the amount of wildlife I see here in the city of Bangkok. Cobras, vipers, pythons, tarantulas, Ladyboys, ostriches, drunken British soccer hooligans, monitor lizards, rats the size of cats. Truly an amazing place. Luckily no scorpions to report of.
Many years ago, my oldest sister was roommates with an American Airlines flight attendant. She had met bassist Francis Buchholz on a flight and they became friends. Finding a Scorpion on an airplane is more common than we think.
