EasyJet To Start Tunisia From London Stansted
According to U2 latest tweet, they will start flights to Monastir twice weekly from STN, starting on the 2nd June! Summer only. http://www.easyjet.com/en/book/new-routes-from-the-uk-2015 Also a couple of new destinations such as Pula and Lefkas have been announced from gatwick.

Definitely bad news for Tunis Air.
Only Arabic destination after the airline dumped AMM, right ?
I see that EZY should have chose CDG or ORY from TUN.

Nice to see U2 go to Tunisia. It's hard to find scheduled flights for less than £200 return, although x2 weekly seasonal STN-MIR isn't going to be doing much for TUN fares.
There's Morocco and Egypt as well

Nice to see some LCCs cming to Tunisia although I do not understand why they have opted for MIR instead of TUN. I guess traffic rights between London and Tunis are still locked by BA. I am very surprised not to see BA come back to Tunis as with the closure of Libyan airports, Libyans are using Tunisian airports to travel.

Not sure though. Can somebody ask? I know that the Tunisian would never have granted rights to U2 to serve Tunis as they afraid of LCC competition and prefer protecting Tunisair.

U2 is a British Airline and under current bilateral agreements, can only serve UK to Tunisia routes.

A bit off topic but can I ask why AMM was dropped? Was the flight's stage length too long or was it more other factors?

This is great news! I would like to see more flights to the capital TUN though, but any new flight to Tunisia is something to celebrate.
They would be competing directly against TU, Transavia, Air Med, and XL Airways on the Paris-Monastir route, as well as AF on the Paris-Tunis route. Since BA doesn't fly to Tunisia, U2 only has TU and a Thomas Cook charter to worry about in the UK.

By comparison, Tunisia is much, much more stable than Libya. The country has had several successful rounds of competitive democratic elections recently for the national assembly and the presidency, resulting in a rather diverse legislature. Tunisia is one of the bright spots among the countries that underwent regime changes during the Arab Spring. It's really unfortunate that countries like Egypt and Libya have been less successful in that regard.
The security situation in the southern parts of the country is a little less clear, given its border with Libya. The country has also been a source for many ISIS fighters, mostly disenfranchised young men. However, I'm not a security expert, so I don't want to speak too much to that. In any case, Monastir, Sfax, and the capital Tunis are all quite safe for tourists, so I see no issues that could affect this U2 route.

There also Thomson (including a few Nouvelair charters), Just Sunshine Holidays (using Syphax operated charters I think), Monarch and Jet 2 in the UK-Tunisia market

All serve LON-Tunisia apart from Jet 2 (and all the airlines/tour operators in the UK-Tunisia market offer non-London services with the exception of Tunisair)

That might explain why U2 is serving MIR instead of TUN. I think Tunisia has some kind of open skies to all airports except Tunis. I think the rights for UK-Tunis are still with BA.
