Quoting ItalianFlyer (Reply 4): Huh?? Who was the last 717 operator in SEA? Sure wasn't Herman. |

Quoting TWA902fly (Reply 2): RJ service currently operated by DL partners WestJet and Compass. Someone should tell WestJet |
Quoting DC10LOVER (Reply 1): Perfect aircraft for West Coast operations. |
Quoting MSPNWA (Reply 9): This move isn't a big surprise to me. The 717 operations will continue to grow more on the West Coast instead of the Upper Midwest. I think it's a logical upgrade from RJs from a capacity standpoint, but otherwise the 717 is less than ideal for SEA. It's bread and butter are shorter routes. |

Surprise surprise. The 717 is an outstanding aircraft for short missions and for longer trips. That's part of it's attraction. The 737NGs and A32X are fine for long routes but carry a lot of extra weight for short trips. The 717 can do both. DL has ~30 more coming this year. The midwest will see it's fair share. |
Quoting tomcbaker (Reply 11): I loved flying it on Midwest Express (pre-Republic) when they used to bake chocolate chip cookies onboard and serve them to you hot with milk The entire plane would fill with the smell of baking chocolate chip cookies about 20 minutes after departure. |
Quoting wedgetail737 (Reply 12): Plus it was only 2X2 seating. I flew it roundtrip on Midwest Express between SEA and MCI. |

Quoting 29erUSA187 (Reply 5): Hmm, so if SAN sees ERJ's to SAN, will we start to see some 717's? |

Quoting a380787 (Reply 17): And how does DL's profits mean jack to consumers other than proving they're ripping customers the most ? For employees it's great but for anyone dealing with skymiles it's absolute junk .... like spirit and Ryanair Of course this forum is filled with people who only care about their profit sharing and won't care one bit about customer experience. No skypesos for me |

Quoting Deltal1011man (Reply 21): So..... Anyone care to explain to me just what this person is talking about? MSPNWA is talking about the 717 having CASM issues. and then out of no where Delta's product is getting compared to NK and employees are evil because of profit sharing. how did we get here? Anyone? |

Quoting dlramp4life (Reply 31): The 717 might be dicey I think on some routes out of SEA. I know SEA-PHX is still an infant route but the loads are not very good on the CR7s and CR9s. Hopefully by September the route has more pax so that the route does not become a waste when the 717 comes online. |
Quoting n7371f (Reply 32): I know LAS-SEA is profitable for Delta even though the three or four dozen times I've flown the route it's rarely sold out. |
Quoting FSDan (Reply 15): SEA-PHX. |

Quoting Sightseer (Reply 30): I wouldn't worry about the 717 fleet being stretched. DL will have more 717s than 737s by the end of the year, |

Quoting n7371f (Reply 32): I've thought the same about LAS-SEA for well over a year now. However you cannot underestimate the Asian connections. At some point I was shared a number that basically said a business-class ticket, times two, could make these Connection-operated SEA flights profitable - assuming decent loads. I know LAS-SEA is profitable for Delta even though the three or four dozen times I've flown the route it's rarely sold out. |
Quoting Deltal1011man (Reply 21): and then out of no where Delta's product is getting compared to NK and employees are evil because of profit sharing. how did we get here? Anyone? |
Quoting MSPNWA (Reply 14): More like acknowledging the facts of the matter and not drinking the Kool-Aid. The greatest advantage of the 717 (and the entire DC/MD series) is its light weight, making it better for short hops. That efficiency advantage goes away the longer you fly it. The powerful engines and small wing hurt the CASM. SEA is relatively isolated geographically, meaning only a handful of mainline routes are in the sweet spot of the 717 from a cost perspective. If you want to talk about capacity matching, there's plenty of routes in the DL system that 110 seats fit best. DL won't have enough 717s to cover all of them, so pushing them out west is a strange move - unless it's a temporary solution until demand hopefully increases. |
Quoting rotating14 (Reply 44): Could they enter the Sea-Anc market that AS currently dominates? It's only 300 more nm than SEA-PHX. |

Quoting DDR (Reply 47): Too bad DL can't get their hands on about 75 more. They could replace a lot of RJ flying. |
Quoting wedgetail737 (Reply 45): I think there's more demand for the SEA-ANC route than the 717 can handle. It's a perfect market for the 737-800, -900 |
