Nice Article On The Restoration Of Boeing 747 No.1

Sat Feb 28, 2015 1:46 am

OK, it's not exactly news, but a very nice article on the local efforts to restore Boeing 747 No. 1 (RA001) to her former glory appeared today:

It goes into nice detail about the people involved and includes many nice pictures. I fully appreciate their love for this particular airplane.

"The Grant County connection led to a tip about another model 100 that was being scrapped in New Mexico, where a salvage-company employee told Dhein: “I’ve got nine tires I’ll donate. All you have to do is pay the shipping.”

Dhein, not wanting the tires to get away, sprung for the $600 shipping cost himself."

$600 seems a low price to ship 9 tires that size.

Well if it's shipped via truck, it can be pretty cheap. Someone can go down there themselves with a U-Haul type truck and haul it back up.

That's such a terrific museum. So many rare planes. And more to come. I'm very excited about the Comet personally.

Hmm. "Biggest museum restoration project ever". I doubt that. For example, restoration of war galleon Vasa from 1628 must have been a lot bigger.
