767 Too Low Or Optical Illuision?

Sun Mar 01, 2015 8:30 pm

Currently this is the Editor's pick, but it doesn't make sense to me. Why would a plane by that low flying at an angle and without it's wheels down? Was it on final approach onto a foamed runway? Any idea where in New South Wales this is?

It looks pretty high to me? It looks like it's taken from an aircraft alongside at 1000ft+

It could have been an air-to-air photographing session, in which case they could be doing low-altitude flights with wheels up. It could also have been shot from much higher with a telephoto lens, which can play tricks with depth perception. And, given the date, it might have been a 767 farewell flight, in which case odd behavior is to be expected.

Picture was taken during the final QF B763 service (MEL-SYD) when the aircraft made a low level circuit around Sydney Harbour.

huh?? ...this doesn't look particularly low at all. Not even as an illusion.

Certainly not too low. As already said, it was a special occasion for the retirement of the type from QF's fleet.

Yes, definitely Bondi Beach in Sydney. The cars are parked on Queen Elizabeth Drive.

Look at the people on the beach compared to the plane windows. That's obviously a telephoto lens from the perspective.

The plane was at 2000 Feet. It was the Farewell flight on 27 December. I know, cause I was on that flight.

So it's definitely an optical illusion then. If the people are at least 2000 feet from the window, they would appear to be specks, not figures taller than the windows themselves.

You can see the new Australian Aircraft Carrier Canberra at 1:10 in the video, along with the rest of the Navy. Thanks for sharing the video.

Don't call it a carrier!!!.... also whilst the RAN is not the world's largest Navy it is a tad unfair to say "the rest of the Navy"!!!
If your camera sends text messages, that could explain why your photos are rubbish!

Yep, calling it a carrier is stretching it a little....

Anyways, great shot of the 767, it always looked fantastic in QF livery.

oops sorry   but it sounds much cooler than to say 'look at that LHD'

back to topic, I don't recall any low flights done by any airliner in Istanbul,

For such flight over Sydney, does the airline need special permission from ATC or City Council as well?
