Emirates To Upgrade DXB-LGW Route To An A380

Mon Mar 02, 2015 7:07 am

Emirates to upgrade (EK15/16) to an A380, from 1/4 to 20/4 seems to be for a test on revenue.

LGW is 2 77W and an A380. This will make it 2 A380 and a 77W.

So when is EK starting a third London airport? LTN? STN?

Good move to cover the Easter temporary peak in demand.
Surely EK should be looking into a STN service, if only to serve the horse racing industry.

With all the improvement's at STN I would not be surprised if they announce it within the next 12 months its a more and capable airport and at a guess it would be 5-7 rotations a week, be nice seeing them lining up for approach above my house

It would be "interesting" to see an EK A380 at LTN (the A380 seems to be their entry level aircraft now   ). I'm not sure B77Ws can fit in there either (although somewhere in the back of my mind I seem to think a UAE VIP one has visited).

STN would seem more likely (to give even geographical distribution around the London perimeter - and go for the Cambridge / Essex market).

there are Transatlantic flights starting this summer at STN with Thomas Cook for a 4-5 week period, EK could be waiting to see how these deliver

Sorry, but you've lost me on that one......can't see EK somehow using a TCX lo-cost / charter operation as a yardstick for how they think their service will perform.

Sorry I explain a little better, what I mean is they could be seeing what there loads are like for things like passenger numbers, ease of large aircraft at the airport, and is there a market for it, I personally think there is and won't be surprised to see them here

Hope that makes a little more sense

OK, but I would want to think EK will have their own ops people looking at things like this. STN has had short-lived transatlantic flights before, plus the AirAsiaX A340's so nothing really new there for the airport itself.

Agree with you that STN should work for EK. The catchment area stretches from NE London to the whole of East Anglia. I'm sure people there will welcome the chance not to traipse round the M25 all the time for a flight out east.

I also do not see this as relevant, when all LGW flights are A380's (give it 18 months) what do EK do with these two airports full at the times EK would like to operate? Start STN! Simples!
I see this as 'when' and not 'if'. Get the Essex/Cambs and certain North London types to use STN so that room can be freed up on the LHR/LGW flights.

I think we will see them from STN for sure, one daily flight and I would guess that a fair number of people on them many flights from various carriers at LHR or LGW would be from Essex, East Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Norfolk at a push, also don't forget STN is a massive cargo hub so that belly will be full
