US & AA: What Special Liveries Stay And Go?

Thu Mar 05, 2015 5:09 am

With the US AA merger, what special liveries will stay and what will be discontinued? I know N822AW, the Nevada painted aircraft, has been repainted since the beginning of February, and the US heritage planes are staying. What about on the AA side with the ribbon jets and the Astrojet aircraft?

Astrojet is staying, as is at least 1 738 in the iconic polished aluminum with the cheatlines. They are adding Reno Air, TWA and Air Cal heritage planes.

Id like to see some more special liveries out of AA/US. they have like 900 planes or something crazy to work with, so I'm surprised they aren't doing anything like WN with the state schemes.

The US Philadelphia Eagles jet has been repainted in new AA colors, which tells me the other three NFL schemes will be disappearing before long as well.

Thank goodness.

The NFL themed paintjobs always seemed chintzy to me. The strange exception may be the Steelers one, since it wasn't as in-your-face as the others, and US was the official airline of the Steelers. The Panthers one was particularly hideous.

I wonder if the HP old livery will stay. It has not been repainted but all the other US heritage planes have.

I will be particularly sad to see the Steelers one go away. Out of the football themed aircraft it was the easiest on the eyes and actually fit in well.

I was about to say that as well. I hope they keep it around but one has to wonder why it has taken them so long to paint this aircraft when the others have already gotten the treatment. Leads me to believe that they only plan on having one HP scheme. Hopefully I am proven wrong.

Just to clarify, these planes have been repainted to read "American," but they have retained their classic liveries.

I would have thought that AA would have added a Dallas Cowboys jet, since AA has been flying the Cowboys for a long time, going back to at least the early 1990s. There are a couple of Cowboys stores at DFW.

What I'd really like to see is the black livery us airways livery. It'd also be neat if AA took delivery of a 737-831 for the TWA plane.

I had always wished they would do a Boeing jet in the old USAir 3-reds/rust scheme...but one can dream can't they?

There should definitely be a throwback early 90s "USAir" bare metal livery scheme. They should throw it on a 757.

How about a special livery for Lake Central Airlines and Mohawk Airlines. They were the first to merge into Allegheny Airlines back in the late '60's and early 70's

The thing is, who remembers those airlines? I certainly don't. I have a hard enough time remembering Allegheny, honestly.

I believe the reason they were not added was they didn't fold into US Airways itself. It was just the 4 airlines that made up US Airways at the merger.

HP, PI, AL and PS. They are keeping these for obvious reasons and adding 3 that were folded into AA (TW, OC and QQ). OZ, Lake Central and Mohawk are too removed to be added.

I actually have the opposite reaction, the Steelers plane is the one I find most out of place. None of them look really bad, to me, though. I kind of wish someone would get a contract to do all 32 teams... or all 32 teams would contract with someone to to do a plane in their colors.

Does anyone know when we can expect to see the TWA plane?

That's unfortunate, I always liked the Piedmont retro jet. I hope the TWA retrojet appears soon, a joy that livery would be able to grace the skies again
