Sabena Airbus 310 - Routes?

Sun Mar 08, 2015 4:11 pm

A couple of questions regarding Belgian carrier, Sabena's use of Airbus A310:

* What routes did they use the type on ?

* When did Sabena add the Airbus A310 to their fleet ?

* What years was the A310 in their fleet ?

* How many ?

Thanx for any answers

SN had three A310s: two A310-200s, one -300. The -200s were delivered in 1984, the -300 in 1987. They were mainly deployed on the African network, and also to Boston. They left the fleet in 1997.

And three other short term leases...

They were also seen at LHR.

Looking at photos in the data base it also appears they were operated on short-haul routes. There are photos taken at CDG, DUS and GRO as well as BRU. Elsewhere on the web there are photos of Sabena A 310s at PMI operating for Conair) and LHR.

Sa be nah?

Always heard this one. It makes sense since the acronym stands for: Société Anonyme Belge d'Exploitation de la Navigation Aérienne (Belgian Corporation for Air Navigation Services)

To be a bit more specific, even if it's obvious due to their range: the A310-200 used to serve the west African destinations, while central Africa (Kinshasa, Brazzaville & Luanda) and east Africa (Nairobi, Entebbe, Kigali and Bujumbura) were respectively served by the 743's and DC10-30's in those days.

The 3 A310 were replaced by 3 A333 (ex Air Inter, 212t MTOW), OO-SFM/N/O, still in service today in Brussels Airlines fleet.

We used to fly the -200s to DLA.

Used to be BRU>DLA>LBV>DLA>BRU then later became BRU>LBV>DLA>BRU if my memory serves me well.

TLV also. I flew on one back in 1988 from TLV to BRU. The return flight to BRU was an A310 as it was supposed to be but the outbound flight out of BRU was switched to a DC-10 because the A310 was grounded. Seat config was 2-4-2 in the main cabin.

Most of the West African network + Boston.

DKR, CKY, FNA, ABJ, LOS, COO, LFW, DLA, NSI were all at one moment or another served by Sabena's A310s.

I saw the SN 310 in BOS on many occasions in the 90s, so I'm assuming it was part of a regularly scheduled BOS-BRU route.

I flew BRU-Abidjan with A310 in either 1997 or 1998. Unfortunately, this was before I got in to Aviation. Don't remember type, reg or date I'm afraid.
