You know PBI is airline serviced by all the usual domestic culprits, right?

Yes. Egad!

Quoting LPDAL (Reply 30):
The number of airline operations at PBI is more or less just a little higher than at SRQ.

If I had to guess, I'd say about 40 more flights. PBI has about twice the gates of SRQ

Quoting Miami (Reply 87):
Just got an update. It seems Condor will start MIA next month!

This is in addition to FLL?...or is this a move?

MAH4546, Ozzell, and Miami,

I'm doing some research for my upcoming MIATPAMIA report and need the following questions answered.

1) One what date or at what point did AA Mainline start flying MIA-TPA-MIA?

2) Did Eagle, it's contracted regional carriers, or Eagle ever fly this route? If so, when did they start, and what aircraft were on the route?

3) At what point did US Airways Mainline start flying MIA-TPA-MIA, and when was this service discontinued in the last few months?

Thank you,

-Colby

Because of geography there's many convenient 1 stop options. Lots of competition Moscow to MIA. Add to that the dramatic decline of the Russian currency, which is making it more expensive for their airlines to operate abroad and is decreasing demand.

You seem very passionate about the Russian airlines? What gives?

Looks like a move. However, with just 45 days remaining until the supposed commencement of MIA flights there has been no official announcement and the airline continues to take reservations for FLL ops.

Quoting 727LOVER (Reply 100):

Yeah, quite a gulf between the two. Some stats for 2014:
SRQ: 1.2 million pax; 16,696 airline movements
PBI: 5.9 million pax, 52,110 airline movements

Looks like FLL's north runway will be closed between 7.30am and 10.30am on Monday, April 13th and between 12.01am and 10.30am the following day. Will be interesting to see how the airport copes with single runway ops on the new runway, albeit for a limited period of time.

I think we are lucky here in So. Florida to see various Dreamliners. LAN (and now with the 789), Arke, Air Europa starting this month, and Norwegian at FLL. Last year we did have a UA 788 land due to a (medical?) diversion (the IAH-LOS flight). Has AA sneaked in a 788 test flight to MIA?

Great time for spotting the Greenbelt or Hibiscus! It will be closed more than just then too, mostly at night. They're doing pavement assessments for an upcoming rehab project for 10L in the next year. Nearly two years of 800(ish) ops a day has beaten it up quite a bit.
The biggest problem of course with closing 10L are the noise complaints. There are still swarms of people trying to shut down the south runway (which, contrary to belief, does NOT close at night like 9R did). I was in the Greenbelt not that long ago and there was a man there in a golf cart and a decibel reader who owned a house in Melaleuca Gardens and somewhere in the approach path. He gave me an earful on his sob story about the noise. I just smiled and nodded.

Anyway, this will be tomorrow for spotters:

While that sounds fun, and I appreciatd your suggestion, RTA, I'm planning trips to other destinations around those dates. Not to mention, I've never been someone to care about whether I'm first or forty-second to do something, that it happens is all that matters to me.

I see, well I'll be sure to look out for your other reports   And also, no worries, I didn't mean it that that way. I meant it only in the sense its usually hard to get on these planes (at least for me, they don' t normally fly where I can easily catch one)

Hi guys, not sure if this has been discussed earlier in the long thread:

With the growing traffic, is anything happening in MIA regarding the bottleneck at the border control as the queues at peak hours are just getting longer..specially when flights from Europe arrive during the afternoon and evening hours, more A380 operators etc. So are there any planned or ongoing improvements?

On a side note, only a few airports outside Canada and the Caribbean have the U.S. pre clearance service, in Europe only in Ireland AFAIK although Oslo was discussed in Norwegian media some time ago. Border control on this side of the pond at major airports would certainly help but will it ever be implemented?
Incidentally, I'm flying to MIA with IB 6117 on May 6, can even give some feedback about the queues that evening..

Thanks for the info. Your link did not open, but I found this:

"Who Is Eligible to Use APC?

U.S. and Canadian passport holders and international visitors from Visa Waiver Program countries are eligible to use APC kiosks. Visa Waiver Program visitors must have Electronic System for Travel Authorizations (ESTA) approval prior to travel and have visited the United States on at least one occasion after 2008"

From the Homeland Security web site

This is good news of course. So EU passport holders with ESTA can use the APC, not just US and Canadian citizens as I first thought?
Probable easy to use too even when jet lagged    ?

Yep. I saw a lot of EU passport holders using it last time. It's also pretty easy to use too. IIRC it is basically just the landing card, but electronically.

APC kiosks are very easy, but if you are going to the US with a first time/newly renewed ESTA, you generally have to see a CBP agent instead. Only visa and non/new-ESTA state citizens can't use it, but by the end of the year, everyone should be able to use APC.
I know FLL is planning to get more than the 20 they have now, and when Concourse A customs is built, it will include APC machines also.

Fantastic that LAN "plans" 787-9 service on the SCL-MIA route for a short period; even though LAN has already operated 36 B-787-9 operated flights on the SCL-MIA route! Regarding the MIA-SCL route, AA will reduce capacity on the route effective 04JUNE (source: AA.com) and will redeploy the 767 on the route daily....

That makes sense, considering that's when the Everglades Jetport should be fully operational. MIA will be decommissioned and the existing airport property repurposed as a rock quarry.

Guys, I have a secret informant that has made me aware that SAA (South African Airways) is going to hub PBI with 20 weekly PBI-JNB-PBI flights spearheading the operation. Nico Bezuidenhout, the company's 87th CEO in 2015 so far, claims that "West Palm Beach is a chronically underserved market for South African traffic. This new venture will lead our airline to flourish in today's harsh economic climate."
