Great update, again! thanks for posting

I noticed there is no reference to RSW in any of this thread. Does anyone have any updates for this airport?

I think it's great we may have TK again.

I do too. And it looks like its a sealed deal. Let's hope for the best!

Quoting skybird77 (Reply 199):
What is different this time that will make them succeed at MIA?

More demand, new tourist attractions, better airport fees. Those can play a huge factor in success.

Quoting skybird77 (Reply 199):
They now would also have QR competition, yes?

In some ways, but they do serve 2 completely different markets.

2 different alliances, as well.

I'm sure both can do just fine, as the Middle Eastern market is growing to/from MIA.

Still be on discussed. Either A343 or 77W.

A343 would most likely bring in a higher frequency while the 77W would probably be a lower frequency.

Did TK say that? I think a 332 is the best plane, since TK is getting rid of their 343's.

I meant in the sense that TK is still deciding what aircraft to put on the route.

I just read from the herald MIA officials are meeting Asian carriers like JL for direct service to MIA. It seems these talks have been going on for decades with no results. I think we will see TK in MIA before any East Asian carrier.

TK is a whole different animal now with a much improved product, excellent connectivity and Star Alliance membership. In 2003, TK carried 10.4 million passengers and served 103 destinations with 65 aircraft. In 2013, the airline carried 48.3 million passengers and served 243 destinations with 233 aircraft. This has contributed to average annual passenger traffic growth of 14.4% at IST between 2002 and 2014. In 2014, IST handled 57.0 million passengers (13th in the world) vs. 11.4 million in 2002.

This chart below from CAPA highlights TK's fleet growth:

This is another interesting chart from CAPA which TK used in a 2013 presentation. It shows the shift in the global economic center of gravity eastwards, with Airbus cited as a source.

I'm drawing a blank...when was TK @ MIA before?

South Florida is the term for southeast Florida, so RSW is not included.

However, I did include RSW in this thread:
