Quoting TheRedBaron (Reply 1): That clean wing is absolute arliner porn!!!! |
Quoting richiemo (Reply 5): Wow!!! That is beautiful. That looks like it just came of the paint line. I still say the 727 is the greatest looking plane ever, and unlike her younger brother, it actually looks great with winglets. But I notice something here. Unless it's an obstacle illusion, is the inlet for engine #2 perfectly round? I thought the inlets became round only with the 727-200. This is a -100 isn't it? ANd I thought all the 100s had oval shaped inlets on engine #2. But regardless, this is an amazing bird. God, how I miss all the three-holers. |

Quoting PC12Fan (Reply 9): Quoting richiemo (Reply 5): Unless it's an obstacle illusion, is the inlet for engine #2 perfectly round? Honestly guys, I think it is an optical illusion. I concentrated on the #3 inlet and it seems wider to me. Compare it to a similar angle of the same aircraft in this pic. Quoting DocLightning (Reply 2): The winglets... The only thing that looks cooler than a 727 is a 727 with winglets. |
Quoting Max Q (Reply 16): The -200 pressurization was all automatic on the other hand, very easy. |
Quoting richiemo (Reply 12): Wow, your're right. Oval indeed. Heck of an optical illusion. By the way, let's drive the a-netters over the cliff and suggest Boeing restart the 727 line. Think they get nuts every time someone mentions restarting the 757 line? Wait'll you suggest the 727 line. |

Quoting xdlx (Reply 14): As suggested here, when they did this conversion it is possible the mandate was for a round intake replacement on #2. |
Quoting richiemo (Reply 5): is the inlet for engine #2 perfectly round? |
Quoting xdlx (Reply 14): Super27 changes Eng 1 & 3 for JT8-217 and hushes the #2 engine a -9 or -15. As suggested here, when they did this conversion it is possible the mandate was for a round intake replacement on #2. |
Quoting AR385 (Reply 24): And you have the answer. The Valsan Conversion which this 727 has, rounded the inlet of engine #2. The Rolls Royce Tay engine needed that. I may be wrong, though, but it seems to me this bird underwent it. |
Quoting 737tdi (Reply 26): The Valsan mod. did not use the RR Tay engines, |
Quoting 737tdi (Reply 26): With that said I am of the opinion that the Valsan mod. was never incorporated on the -100, I could definitely be wrong on this one though. |

Quoting SLCGuy (Reply 37): Valsan Super 27-100 and 200 mod, winglets, outboard pod engines upgraded to JT8D-200, number 2 engine original JT8D with no thrust reverser, no change to number 2 inlet. 727-100QF mod, winglets and all 3 engines upgraded to RR Tay, number 2 intake has a humped appearance with round inlet. |
