Status Of Air Vanuatu Fleet?

Tue Mar 17, 2015 2:24 am

Recently Cyclone Pam went through Vanuatu. I read the airport took some damage, but didn't see anything about the Air Vanuatu fleet. Has there been any word on the status of their fleet? I would imagine that their B738 was able to stay at a New Zealand or Australia destination, but what about their ATR and Y-12, maybe they were flown to New Caledonia as I do not think Pam hit their directly, or did they ride out the storm at the hangars at the airport (if they have any).

Just a few weekends ago as I was at SYD doing some spotting and watched their B738 take off, I was thinking about taking a trip there.

According to CH Aviation the ATRs took shelter in Noumea. New Caledonia was mostly unaffected by Pam.

Don't know about the 737 though...

Thanks for the info, it looks like the B738 hung out at SYD from 12-MAR to 16-MAR. I forgot you can search by registration on Flightaware. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/YJAV1

Didn't they have 2x 738s?

New Zealand media has stated that NZ made its first flight back in today with an A320, and the RNZAF 757 aborted it mission today.

Air Vanuatu only have 1 738 I'm 99.9% sure about that

I'd be curious as to why, it was a rather nice day yesterday there from the video coverage I saw on NBC. Obviously the airport is open, which is not always the case when something of this magnitude happens in the remotest parts of the world, that can be counted as a very big blessing given the amount of aid that is going to be needed, there are 80 pretty remote Islands with people still on them, hopefully.
