Transatlantic 757 Routes

Sun Mar 22, 2015 3:06 am

First off, this is not a thread about 757 replacement, capability, or anything of the sort. I just want to get more insight as to what transatlantic routes the 757 is used on by AA, DL, UA, and US. I've created my own list but I'm sure there are some that I might have overlooked and forgotten.

United:
EWR-BCN
EWR-BHX
EWR-DUB
EWR-EDI
EWR-GLA
EWR-HAM
EWR-LIS
EWR-LHR
EWR-MAD
EWR-MAN
EWR-OSL

JFK-CPH (seasonal)
JFK-AGP (seasonal)
JFK-PSA (seasonal)
JFK-SNN (seasonal)

Aer Lingus:
DUB-BOS
DUB-JFK

Let's fly! Unless it's on a CRJ 200, then I'll stay down here.

There was another (admittedly old) thread started by me here, but subsequently from to TPP: DL, UA, US, AA, EI,and FI 757 Tatl Routes For 2015 (by LPDAL Jan 13 2015 in Aviation Polls)

It covered not only AA, US, DL, and UA, but also Icelandair and Air Contractors D/B/A Aer Lingus.

You forgot the one that causes the most debate, which is the longest — TXL-EWR on UAL.

Also, don't Thomas Cook still fly across the pond with 757s? They used to have a dedicated subfleet with less seating, making a very generous 34" pitch; they would have been weight restricted anyway, so TCX removed the seats that would have been empty, making a very comfortable ride. I flew MAN-YYZ in about 2009 and the following year LGW-YYZ.

Do Titan do ETOPs transtatlantic charters on their 757s?
Jet 2 Winter charters include GLA-EWR also.
There are the Expeditions type round the world charters which usually start UK- Florida and people like Monarch, Thomson and TCX do routes like that with 757s (obv not MON anymore).
There had been rumours of more transtatlantic 757 ops with either AA or DL but havent heard any more.

You're also missing Icelandair KEF-SFB (soon to be switched over to MCO) which was always FI's longest route until they started Seattle.

AA ORD-DUB is operated by 763 not a 752. They operate JFK-DUB with 752 during the summer months while DL switch their JFK-DUB between 764 and 752 at different times during the year

RDU-CDG (announced, but I don't know if it ever started)

I don't think they've ever run a 757 on that route. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's been all 767s for as long as I can remember.

Titan lost the Falklands Air-bridge contract back in 2013. Since 3 October of that year this twice-weekly service has been operated by an AirTanker A 330:

As TFJamie said, almsot never. The flight is just 7:45 hrs, much shorter than the notorious TXL-EWR flight on UA. It also goes further north so there is generally not as much wind enroute.

AFAIK, the stop at MAN exists only because Pakistan does not meet the security requirements of the US FAA/TSA requirements, therefore necessitating a stop-over in an approved country. That's why the return flight JFK-Pakistan is able to operate non-stop.

KEF-SEA is 310 nm shorter than TXL-EWR and 267 nm shorter than ARN-EWR.

KEF-SEA 3,148 nm
TXL-EWR 3,458 nm
ARN-EWR 3,415 nm

Winds are also usually lighter at the much more northerly latitudes on a route like KEF-SEA than on Europe-East Coast routes.
