Air Canada 1st To Develop App For Apple Watch.

Fri Mar 27, 2015 6:53 pm

Air Canada leaps ahead of the pack in an ever increasing digital world

"MONTREAL , March 27, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - Air Canada announced today that it has developed an app for the recently unveiled Apple Watch that will make it even more convenient for customers on-the-go to obtain important travel information and initiate tasks such as checking-in.

"With our Glance feature, the Air Canada app for Apple Watch readily provides customers with personal and relevant information about flights departing within a 24-hour window. Essential information can be displayed on the user's Apple Watch and is frequently updated during the day of travel, including Actionable Notifications for check-in and boarding. The app also includes a hand-off feature to enable customers to begin more complex tasks, such as checking-in, that can then be completed either on an iPhone or Mac computer.

The Air Canada app for Apple Watch will be available in the Apple Watch App Store on April 24th . The Air Canada app for iPhone is available today from the App Store"

I think AA was the first???

Didn't they show a screenshot of an American Airlines app at the launch presentation?

Apps are useless without good data. It usually takes AC about ten minutes after scheduled departure time to update the FIDS at the gate - why do we expect the app to be any better?

I got a question.

So you check in for your flt on your apple watch. Get a boarding pass- scan code Then what? Can you just show that to TSA and at the gate? Can those scanners read a code on a watch,? Pretty small scan code

Yep, this title is factually incorrect. They weren't the first to announce, show, or release an app. Sorry.

Do any of these apps know your boarding group and buzz you when they begin boarding that group?

There was an ad for AA's Apple Watch app that included a screen shot showing boarding group. Don't know if it buzzes, vibrates, or sounds an alarm.

Qantas updated their app for Apple Watch too. I'll try it out on the 25th.

But AA was the first. Apple even used it in their keynotes.
Durban. Melbourne. Denver. Hong Kong.

This was issued on the 10 March by NZ-

"Air New Zealand to launch Apple Watch app"

Air New Zealand will soon become one of the first New Zealand companies to launch an app for the highly anticipated Apple Watch™.

Details of Apple’s first wearable device were revealed by Apple Inc. this morning New Zealand time at a launch event in San Francisco.

Air New Zealand customers with the Apple Watch will soon be able to receive flight information and notifications on their device including boarding calls, a departure countdown feature and their electronic boarding pass.
Those eligible for lounge access will even be able to order barista made coffee at some of the airline’s lounges straight from their wrist.
Air New Zealand Chief Information Officer Julia Raue says the airline’s developers visited Apple in California during the development of the app.

Does it really matter whose app was first? The apple watch is not even out yet so what difference does it make??
Besides, they all look the same. No creativity. just a screenshot with date, flight no and gate. That is it! Ugly, ugly, ugly!!

Where does is say anywhere that AC was the first airline?

It would also help is the OP typed the title of the PR correctly in the post.

Title should read: Air Canada Digital Strategy Leaps Ahead with Apple Watch App

This has turned into one of the most useless threads I have yet to read on this site.

"This airline is first!"

"No, this one is!"

At the end of the day, who cares?! One has an app, the other has an app, I have a goat, you have a donkey! A year from now everyone will have an app.

End this thread, please.

Agree, there is NOTHING in the AC press release that says they are the first with such an app. This entire thread is based on a false premise and should be locked. It appears that almost nobody actually read the press release and just assumed that the incorrect thread subject is accurate.

At the very least, the subject should be changed to read: Air Canada Develops App for Apple Watch".

Those who are nitpicking whether AC is first or not may not remember how many things AC has pioneered that is now common place in airlines. Given the volume of those things they may indeed be first or among the first. Does it really matter that much whether they are first or third?

Since this thread has "derailed" and AC may not be the first one to develop the Apple Watch I will be locking this thread for further contributions. Any posts made after the thread lock will be deleted for housekeeping reasons.
