This Baby jet looks pretty good in AJet colors, I bet it would even look better with TK colors

I am sure we are all so happy that winter, snow, airport closures, runway overruns hopefully behind us. I wish all of you a happy start to spring and safe landings.

Recap, News and such:
-After that blunder some months ago, TK decided to go with Vakko to design to new uniforms
-Borajet now has 9 x E190s
-TK to receive 1 x 332F, 2-3 owned 333s, 2 x Afriqiyah 333s(?), 1 x 739, 1 x 321, 2 x 77Ws this month.
-Only 1 x A310F left at TK, which will also be retired come August.
-With all these new frames arriving, wouldn't it be nice to have a retro livery TK plane?
-No deal for TK on the MH 380s.
-TK A333s, starting with TC-JOF to have internet and liveTV capabilities.
-TK's marketing budget up to $200M/year. With Chelsea F.C. deal off, TK to sponsor UEFA Champions League for 3 years at total cost of around $150M.
-TK to start SFO Apr 13th. 5 x weekly, to go daily from May 11. No Comfort class on the SFO 77Ws.
-TK to start Porto 4 x weekly.
-10th TK destination in Italy; Bari, starts 4 x weekly
-ATU wins the contract to run the Duty Free shops in Houston for 10 yrs. What are the chances of TAV to win LGA?
-"Gobeklitepe" TK A333 at KTM a write-off???

Thanks everyone for sharing your news, views, pictures, rumors and good old sense of humor.
As always we ask that you stay away from personal attacks and political mumbo jumbo.

Welcome,
TK787

Thanks for all your updates, TK787. The Turkish threads are by far the best threads to read on a.net.

Thanks again TK787 for the great thread and summary!!!

Does anybody know the new code in the system for TC-JSN? AFAIK it is 32M with 20J and ?Y. Can somebody enlighten me please.

I am quite happy to see that they upgraded to 20J instead of 16J previously.

For sure never say never !

I mentioned on the Irish thread but worth a mention here too. TK celebrated their double daily DUB-IST yesterday at DUB with TK branded cakes and a party at the gate area. TK sales team continue to be very active in the market and lots of corporate and trade events.

Thanks for the latest fleet list:
Do you know why the latest 2 x 77Ws are listed as 77E, what is the difference from the previous 4 (77B)?

Here we go again. . TK strikes with its Turkishness. I helped mom purchase a ticket online las winter for her to visit me.
She bought a ticket online at thy.com round trip IST-LAX-IST .. We called TK and cancelled the reservation. Now, TK says I have to go to the ticket office to get the refund.. Why? It's an online purchased ticket.

New bilateral between Turkey and Greece, increases frequencies from 31 to 52.
Trabzon, Antalya, Nevsehir is added to Istanbul, ESB, ADB.
It also says Greek carriers to get two slots ??? At IST?

I'm not sure what is going on with Greece, but Turkey and EU signed a new air service agreement in 2010 that pretty much abolishes any restrictions, but Greece was one of the few that never formally ratified it.

For trivia, Turkey is EU #3 largest air travel market (more than 25 million passengers) after the US and Switzerland.

New lease agreement by TK:

"The Incorporation has decided to lease three A330-200 aircraft from Wells Fargo Bank Northwest, NA and two A330-300 aircraft from Afriqiyah Airways JSC for the duration of 8 years."

Does anybody have information on the Afriqiyah birds regarding configuration?

I heard rumours that TK and Airbus will set up a repair shop in KTM to get TC-JOC airworthy again. Let's hope that this is true.

Looks like Mr.Topcu will run for a parliament seat as we have already speculated months back. Lets wait and see who will be head of the board.

It is also time to discuss (+) and (-) of his period. But probably his resignation also means end of A388 dreams.

Not to hijack the thread, but I have a question. Is Turkey part of EASA / JAA? It seems that to work for them you need a JAA license.

Hi guys - I will be visiting IST for my first time next month, coming off a cruise ship and staying in the Airport Radisson.
What are the do's and dont's of spotting / photographing at IST ? Also, fancy a day visit to SAW - is there an inter-airport bus service ?
Many thanks for any advise.

Expect long journey however. You are literally travelling from Europe to Asia ! You transfer bus at Taksim.

If not maybe Turkish members can provide details but I believe one can reach Asian side quicker via rapid boat then then catch bus to SAW.

Yes Turkey is a former JAA member state that mutually recognizes JAR-FCL even though its not a EASA member.
Turkey basically continues harmonization with EASA

Personally I think his departure is good for TK. He might be a humble enough personally, but I never felt with his lack of airline industry insight and lack of foreign language skills as being a good fit for such a high profile enterprise.

Quoting TK105 (Reply 33):
Mr. Ilker Ayci is named head of the board of TK. Here is some information about him:

Well he speaks English so that is good. Wont have to use translators when giving speeches at public events, or conducting business negotiations.
Also Mr. Ayci is significantly younger so a new generational blood might bring a different outlook to the open. Though he also has not formal airline experience except his time as a board member since 2011, though he does have general international business experience.

Lets see how Mr. Ayci works with Mr. Kotil the CEO. There was always a pull-push dynamic between Kotil and Topcu sometimes quite public with them contradicting each other.

I flew from Bilbao to Istanbul tonight with TK A320, I probably had one of the bumpiest ride both in the air and on the ground. In the air, the final fifteen minutes of descent was very shaky, even a few people threw up. It was bumpy on the ground as well, because our bus driver took us through a dedicated lane at the tarmac construction area, with no lights around and lots of bumps.

I know you cant do anything about the weather nor about a construction site in the middle of airport. One thing that annoyed me a lot was that our airport stair truck did not have a cover on top of it. It is not fun to get all wet inside and out ( it was raining that hard ) while trying to descend slowly so you dont slip. Is it too expensive to install covers on the stair trucks?
