BA A380 To SFO?

Was scanning flight radar today (I live in Sacramento) and guess what was right above me, BA 286 SFO-LHR and it was being operated by G-XLEE. I found a thread about possible BA A380 destinations and there was a lot of speculation about SFO being next but nothing concrete. Is this a permanent switch or one of those up-gauges like they do in SAN often with the 77W?

Yep. The second daily 747 is up-gauged to a380 five days a week (except Tue, Wed). On Tue and Wed, the second daily will remain a 747. I believe the a380 started on 30-MAR. I will be on it on 11-APR!

I know the search function is bad here but if you type into google: "site:airliners.net" before your search terms you will see that this has been brought up multiple times before.

Just a friendly note as I encounter the same problems.

I visited SFO recently and was equally surprised to see it arriving. I learned from a local spotter that it was only the 2nd day of operations, it started 29/03/15. jfrworld and tortugamon have covered it, it's not everyday but very much permanent.

I feel that repeating the same questions and answers is non-optimal and I know I would prefer not to re-read the same things multiple times. I am the OP I imagine he would prefer to have immediate answers to his question rather than the delay. Maybe you feel more comfortable wasting time and I accept that.

San Francisco is such a uniquely beautiful city with so much for tourists to do, plus a major business centre due to Silicone Valley, I am not surprised BA have up gauged. (Also I see United are bringing the 747 back to LHR this summer from SFO, which has happened in the past — summer 2013 was 2x daily 747 — but didn't happen in 2014.)

Like I mentioned in the original post, I searched but only thread I found was the 'BA and the A380' and actually spent some time scanning it and found nothing. Anyways, not sure why you spent so much time pointing out my ineptitude to find a thread but it is what it is, if the Mods want to delete this thread they will I guess.

Yeah, San Francisco sure can sustain the A380 traffic, I am surprised none of the Asian carriers have sent theirs since SQ did it for a while before going back tot he 77W. I've flown UA930/931 a few times and Thank God it was on the 777 because the 747s are terrible in steerage. I guess AF Airlines (Argentina)">SF is a very popular destination in the Spring/Summer. AF just switched to the A380 for the Summer a few weeks ago (My girlfriend is on the CDG-SFO one this Saturday) so I guess it's that time of the year.
