New Transaero Livery

Tue Apr 07, 2015 7:45 am

The airline have launched a new livery to coincide with the delivery of their first brand new 737.

Definitely some AA - inspired gradient in there! http://www.vrefphotos.com/Aviation-I...es/Boeings/Boeing-737s/i-cxtrKCV/A

The gradient and the hue of the blue in the tail definitely look AA-inspired.
Not sure what to make of their liveries. The last one was very reminiscent of AF, now this…

This looks like the new livery that would result from a BA-AA merger!

I thought it looked more like the new Eurowings livery in terms of design, though some of those shades of blue are definately similar to those on AA tails. Not sure if I like this livery or not. Will reserve judgement until I've seen more planes wearing it.

i think its rather ugly as a whole. Cant say the old one is much better, but at least the name was printed in some more recognizable way.

This one looks rather cheap.

This looks terrible IMHO. It's a terrible livery. Its not a very well thought out one. It's too basic.

It's not minimalist. It just meeds thay extra element that will make it pop.

I see no relation to AA or BA. What are you all talking about?

It's a perfectly fine, modern, clean and unique livery (apart from the blue belly which is quite common)

The new AA eagle logo uses the same red and blue light/dark gradient.

ANYTHING is better than their last livery which was absolutely hideous. This isn't very exciting, but I'm content that they got a new livery alone.

I thought their outgoing livery ws quite nice, dont know why its being called horiffic, as for Delta inspired body, I think not they had this BA inspired body since before DL got theirs.

Why do they curve the front paint on belly on 737 fleet?

I do not like it. But I do not fly with them and I am not making decisions for the airline. It is too ordinary and to me it feels like something is missing.

The tail and winglets are pleasant enough. The fuselage is a little sparse and the color on the fuselage should carry through the gradient effects on the tail and winglets. The gradients on the vertical surfaces and lack of gradients elsewhere are kind of disjointed. The whole thing doesn't get me excited but it's pleasant enough.

Better than the current one, but not very good to be honest. Very basic, and flat, and not in a good way.

Awful typeface too.

This is an awfully cheap looking livery - the tail and the accent on the winglets is okay, but the font and the overall fuselage looks like a wet-lease/temporary livery - the font may have been okay (and it is not) without the blue belly. Awful on so many levels.

To avoid a replacement white nosecone spoiling it? Why they didn't just lower the level of the blue I don't know.

Nothing looks good on the front end of a 737. Can't they give the poor thing a nose job. BUT the shapes on the tail play interestingly with the shape of the tail itself......and would probably do some interesting things on various aircraft.

I think the titles look unfinished or indistinct and there's no clear branding device to attest the plane's origin.

Completely agree. This looks like it was drawn by a child in kindergarten. Another design that is nothing more than splotches on a plane.

I think it would've looked much better if they'd used the existing titles with the new tail, etc. Like it or not, the old "TRANSAERO / ТРАНСАЭРО" titles were quite distinctive. The new typeface is pretty weak.

I agree with the first part, but do you mean the branding should reflect the fact that the airline is Russian? If so, I disagree; it's not like S7's brand is reflective of Siberia, DL's brand screams "America," or TAM looks like it's from Brazil. Transaero can have its own identity, especially since the giant flowing Russian flag theme is already in use by another airline.

It's interesting how the pattern on the tail evokes the arrowhead that was on the tail of the old livery. It has a flow. Not bad.

It's a terrible livery, and I won't defend it - but I will say this to those saying it is AA inspired : That tail is about as AA inspired as the AA tail is CU inspired.

Well, it doesn't break any of my rules and yet I still don't like it.

* it isn't all white or grey/white
* it isn't billboard titles
* it's simple and even easy to draw
* it's distinctive

It's also ugly as sin. The tail design makes no sense visually (the colors aren't even right to be the Russian flag and the font, color, size, and placement of the "Transaero" name are just ugly.

Who did this brand for them? Certainly wasn't Landor.

Ahh, by the way, does anyone knows why UN decided to get rid of many B747 in DME? The are scrapping them in Russia's busiest (and maybe smallest) airport apron..

Wow, you're right! Seeing the slight nod to the old arrow logo makes me like this livery much more.

I also can't help but feel that the way the paint curves at the nose makes the livery look stranger and less balanced than it actually is.

As a Russian, I agree with the majority: it is a very disappoint paintjob.
It is really inexpensive - which might be one of requirements.

UN exists since 1989. It is the direct competitor of Aeroflot and S7 - those have excellent liveries.
Transaero really deserves better.

I don't mind the tail so much (looks like one that AA had considered when their new "fight symbol" was designed, but passed on), but the body is awful. They could have at least matched the blue with any of the blue shades that are on the tail. Would have been nice if the engine nacelles matched the same shading as on the tail.

I, along with so many, felt that the previous livery looked as if was crudely done, as if a very unskilled person did it and not even in a design program in a computer. the Futura Extra Bold Itaic had a line cut through as if it was done by a Matt knife and no re-drawing of the letterforms to make a serious wordmark. The typography skills evident in most big brands made it look like a quicky. The tail, while different enough from AF to ward off the trademark lawyers, was a total rip off of the same idea. And if you compare, you can see the eye and hand of a designer on the AF tail. It's finessed beautifully.

It is was however in its totality clunky and very cheap looking. As some air freight companies are, especially a decade or two ago when cargo airlines had no incentive to use a livery as a brand building tool.

Also, if a fleet is very old, the best way to make the aircraft look really old is to have a very dated look on top. Delta operates some very old airplanes, but the freshly painted livery easily would have the average person fooled to the fact they are on a 25 year old aircraft. Same for UNITED 747's, while I'm not fond of the livery, the fresh and crisp paint job makes those 747-4 look quite good.

It's a matter of opinion however, but as a designer myself, and 23 years at Landor, the "horrors" of Trasaero are blaring to me. Cheers!

VC10er, Transaero was established in 1989 with a modest goal of transportation of immigrants to Israel.
And the felt consisted of a single TU-154M, already with this livery.

It was long due to change. But the change I see is very, very disappointing.

Sorry, the proposed livery does not inspire me. Nor does the title (font). There seems to me a lack of unity between the tail logo and the blue belly, with way too much white. A simple curvy line, such as that on the new AeroMexico livery would have helped. Then, again, I was not a fan of the old livery either. I find the Aeroflot and Aeroflot Don schemes much nicer.
