Stupid question...where do the people sit if there aren't any seats?

On an AI flight, they sit on the roof silly.

Jokes aside, a good job by all the nations involved in evacuating their citizens.

It's surprising how relatively dysfunctional airlines like AI and PK can get their act together when countless government departments and ministries are working in tandem.

Yes! AI gets beat up on here all the time. They did a good job in this situation. Probably saved many lives.

An airplane that's overloaded, out of balance, or doesn't have proper seats and restraints for all passengers goes down and the lawyers will be all over it like a cheap suit, emergency or no emergency.

It was a military operation in a war zone by IAF (and Navy), with AI ordered to assist with boosting IAF capacity.

The orders of the military commander of the operaion is the law, period.

Any civil laws, IATA regulations or whatever, do not count. The only legal "risks" rest on the shoulders of the commander of the operation. He could be court martialed if his military supperiors judge that he did a bad job. Sure that won't happen. He deserves a medal insead.

Most of these were children and ladies, and most of them are quite petite / slim built. So sitting in laps, or 4/5 in 3 seats, etc. Sort of how we cram up in the back seat of a car.

This is a good video to see and does answer the B77W question too. http://www.ndtv.com/video/player/new...er-air-india-s-yemen-heroes/363247

Not as good as on QR flight flew into Sanaa prior to 3/24/15.

BTW do ME3 issue full refund for unused portion of the ticket or some some meal coupons at their great hubs.

As many have mentioned, it was a humanitarian evac flight and was not Civil. I doubt Int'l Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO) will have anything to do with it. Plus, the plane was very likely below MTOW hence there was no safety threat.

Good to see AI getting some positive coverage. And the operation seems well planned with narrow-bodies hauling the short hauls and 777s on the longer haul.

A bit of a waste of seats to have a reporter, a cameraman, a minister etc. on board when they had to leave people behind in Yemen
Quoting brahmin (Reply 31):
The minister is required to make decisions and clear problems.Reporters and cameramen are required for the world to know what is happening.

Without the reporter, the world wouldn't know what happened and a.nutters would only continue bashing AI on it's financial and 787 problems

Even now, we have a few members worrying about legal issues and inflight service on a thread about evacuating citizens from a war zone......
