Hop! Takes Over AF Domestic And Regional (not CDG)

Thu Apr 09, 2015 3:53 am

Hop! Air France to take over all domestic, regional and intra-Europe flying for Air France from Orly and bases in regional France. CDG not affected.

This should lead to Hop! livery and titles on aircraft up to A321.

Airbus family aircraft at ORY, LYS and TLS bases will remain under AF branding. Nothing really different for clients.

I think that in the future, the A/C transfered to HOP will have HOP livery and won't remain in AF livery.

On a side note : HOP is already flying for AF from CDG to some european destinations like FRA, TRN, HAJ....
Flying is amazing!

No switch to the Hop livery planned.

HOP E170s are being used on the nightly AF1480 to LHR.
Question everything. Trust no-one.

I'd be shocked if they were able to do that.

I doubt they are allowed to do that. But I can imagine an IB Express / 4U type of move, where short-haul hiring at mainline is frozen and the lower cost subsidiary progressively takes over, and mainline in the end only serves CDG feeder flights.

I don't really understand Air France.

I thought Transavia was to become their Vueling/Eurowings carrier. Hence they have started operating Transavia routes that are not strictly ethnical or holiday-oriented (for instance, flights from ORY to MAD, MUC or DUB) as they were before.

So what is the brand positioning of Air France mainline, HOP! and Transavia? It seems a big mess to me. Why the need of 3 carriers?

Wouldn't it be more logical to keep Air France mainline at CDG (short and long haul) and everything else Transavia?

I thought so too. But that was killed by the strikes. What I don't understand however, is why HOP seems (for now) to be an acceptable solution to the unions, but not Transavia. What am I missing?

Three brands is still too few compared to LH, they should launch a few more airlines.
What I interpret for now (prone to change at any time) AF: longhaul and CDG. HOP: regional carrier, plus now also A32x out of ORY and the regions as an alternate solution to the failed plan to use Transavia. Transavia: intended originally as their VY/EW, plan was killed by the strike, now just kind of sitting there waiting for AF-KL to decide what to do with it.
