IGavion -a New Operator In Nice?

Fri Apr 10, 2015 12:17 pm

Today's nice-matin announced new mostly seasonal flights from NCE. A company I've never heard about called IG avion is going to start flights between Nice and Châteauroux next June. When I checked their web site it appears that they are already flying between some French cities and even to Girona and Palma de Mallorca at least according to the map on their home page:

The parent company seems to be Polish, Sky-Taxi. I found a sole Saab340A SP-MRB in their fleet, incidentally with the serial number 100 first delivered to a Swedish operator almost 28 years ago. There must be more than one aircraft now? Your thoughts? Can a route like this be profitable?

It does look like a single-Saab summer-only operation. More info:

Thank you for the link bobdino, they seem to have been operating regionally in France for some time. In other words, there must be a market during the summer months. But even so, with just one aging turboprop in use..

Chateauroux is a small isolated town. I am very curious about how they make such a line work, even in Summer.

The article claims that Châteauroux is the gateway to the Loire River valley and its attractions, even Limoges and Orléans could be potential catchment areas..
As an expat living in France, it is difficult to say if a niche route like this works during the peak season. I agree with you however that looking at the map it's a bit isolated and one might think that people from Limoges and Orléans for example have many other options when travelling to Côte d'Azur
