Quoting dlx737200 (Reply 10): I've never been to Houston but do the news agencies always refer to IAH as "The Big Airport?" At the end of the video report on that website, the reported says, "We're live at 'The Big Airport'." That would drive me nuts if I lived there... |
Quoting FlyHossD (Reply 3): From the video I've seen, it looks more like a case of off the taxiway, not runway. |

Quoting CALTECH (Reply 14): Ran off the high speed taxiway. All three gear in the mud. Engines ingested some mud, borescope. Recovery under way. Heard nose gear is up and on plywood according to Joe Petroni. Nose gear looks okay. Lt MLG next, then Rt MLG. Joe Petroni will attempt to pull it out. |
Quoting drerx7 (Reply 16): Most native Houstonians like myself refer to it as 'The Big Airport', 'Intercontinental', or more recently 'IAH'. Only outoftowners or 'Newstonians' call it Bush. |
Quoting aznmadsci (Reply 15): It's the Big Airport or Intercon. |
Quoting wncrew (Reply 4): If this was WN there'd already be 20+ posts about how they were taxiing too fast and how unsafe they are and linking it to the OTHER post about the recent letter from the FAA they got (which UA just got)... just making a point. I don't think UA is inherently unsafe in ANY way, but when you want to stir the pot, you will (ahem CERTAIN posters).... let this be an example of how easy and unnecessary it is and let it STOP! |

Quoting Slider (Reply 20): ve never heard anyone call it "the Big Airport" in 13 years.... |
Quoting trnswrld (Reply 25): What were the pilots doing? Texting and taxiing? No but seriously, it wasn't icy obviously. Can extreme wind or whatever cause a pilot to lose control over a relatively slow taxiing aircraft? |

Quoting United787 (Reply 12): Looks like it just needs a tow and a power washer... This isn't like the previous two North American runway "incidents"... AC at YHZ and DL at LGA |

Quoting Viscount724 (Reply 27): The photo reminds me of the SQ 77W runway excursion at MUC in November 2011, arriving from MAN (operates MAN-MUC-SIN). I never did hear what caused that. Runway was dry at the time. Ground was hard and don't think it sank in much. |
Quoting jetwet1 (Reply 31): This outoftowners still refers to it as Intercontintental.......Or that f****** airport where I have to run from one side to the other to make my connection. |
