Encounter The Same Aircraft

Fri Apr 17, 2015 3:47 pm

Does anyone ever encounter the same aircraft in different parts of the world, I have flown from LHR-BNA lots of times and have flown on N720AN twice one to JFK and one to DFW but this aircraft has also been parked at the gate next to me twice also at LHR, twice at DFW and once I flew from LAS-LAX and as we rolled up to the gate what a surprise next to me was N720AN.

just interesting to know if anyone else has had any similar encounters.

regards

I spotted BA 777 G-YMMC at SAN, then 2 weeks later flew it home from LHR-SAN.

I spotted BA 744 C-CIVL at LAX in 2013, then caught it at LHR (same for lots of 744's, including some at BOS)

When a subfleet has fewer AC, you would typically see one registration more often than you would see a 737-800 of a particular registration.

That being said, I have non-reved on N555UW eight times while the next closest A321 is 189UW at three so it is possible.

I seem to encounter n900PC (delta's oddball 752) with monotonous regularity, often in SJU, although in the last week it has been rattling around all over the continental US (source: Flightaware).
I love to fly, and it shows!

My commonest include:

30 flights on VS A320 EI-DEO
23 flights on VS A320 EI-EZV
17 flights on VS A320 EI-EZW
17 flights on EZY B733 G-EZYM
16 flights on EZY B733 G-EZYI
14 flights on BMI A320 G-MIDS
but then I have been commuting LON-EDI by air for 14 years!

Long-haul my leader is:

8 flights on CX B744 B-HOU

The high number of flights on specific Little Red A320s proves:

I flew VH-OJD on LAX-BNE in 2006 and then saw it at NRT in 2012. Sadly, but understandably, I believe that 744 is no longer with us.

Back in 2003 I took SQ's 9V-SWP from IAH-DME-SIN-DME-IAH to and from MNL. Last year, I took the same exact plane on the same route on my way down to AKL and MEL.

I've flown on MD-83 N975AS twice, once on SMF-SEA, and then on SEA-SMF a month or so later. That was not long before AS retired the MD-80s for good and I think there were only around six left in the fleet at that point, so getting the same one twice wasn't too surprising.

I actually flew on the same CO 767-200, N76153, on three segments, all on the same trip. First on IAH-EWR (Where I connected to a 757 flight to HAM), then about two weeks later on FRA-EWR-IAH for the return trip.

Probably the most improbable due to the size of the fleet, I flew on N18220, a CO 737-800 twice, on SMF-IAH, and then on OAK-IAH a little over a year later.

I've been "chased around" by two aircraft in my life, each of which I've flown on way more segments than would be probable:

1) BA 747-100 G-AWNH, and
2) AS 737-800 N589AS.

Back when Northwest started getting the EMB-175s, I was chased for about 6 weeks by N606CZ. 5 separate trips on that airplane!

Have been on all of these at least twice. Some 3 times.

I've flown these aircraft multiple times:

HS-TEP (Thai A333) - 4x
HS-TEN (Thai A333) - 3x
LN-RCY (SAS 738) - 3x
LN-TUL (SAS 73G) - 3x - This one I actually flew 3 times in a row (no other flights in between) or 3 different routes!
9V-STC (Singapore A333) - 2x
9V-SWB (Singapore 77W) - 2x
9V-SYG (Singapore 773) - 2x
HS-TEH (Thai A333) - 2x
HS-TEQ (Thai A333) - 2x
HS-TJT (Thai 77E) - 2x
HS-TLA (Thai A345) - 2x
LN-KKL (Norwegian 733) - 2x
LN-KKN (Norwegian 733) - 2x
LN-KKW (Norwegian 733) - 2x
LN-RRU (SAS 738) - 2x
VH-VQH (Jetstar A320) - 2x
VH-XFC (Virgin A332) - 2x
VH-XFG (Virgin A332) - 2x

Of the above, the Thai A330 multiple flights isn't all that surprising, I had a period of time where I flew them quite a bit.

My most flown would be

G-GFFB BA 737-500 38 Times for SH
G-VIIO BA 777-200ER 7 Times for LH

I have most of the LGW based 319's approaching double figures now too and had flown every single 300/400/500 that BA operated multiple times - each of the 500's were in double figures.

But considering I have logged 800+ BA sectors in 15 years that's not so surprising

Funny! While waiting for my JFK-SXM flight to board, I saw N900PC was boarding for SJU. A few days later, while at Maho Beach, N900PC flew in. Another interesting thing to note is that while boarding SXM-JFK, "Adiemus" was playing at the gate area (from an old DL commercial).

I've also encountered N319NB dozens of times while either connecting at or flying to/from SLC.

Way back in 1972 I had my first trip on a DC-9, it was with Hughes Airwest out of LAX and I think we flew to Las Vegas, some 40 years later I flew from DTW to CMH with Northwest on the very same aircraft.
Funny enough the aircraft looked newer with Northwest as it had a recent paint job and new interior.
I so want to fly on SCAT one day!

I flew with EK 77W A6-ENO from CPH to DXB, then spotted it more than six months later in Nice.

The same goes for their A380. I flew their A6-EEU from HKG to DXB, and I've since seen it in LHR.

I'm being "chased" by LH A321-100 D-AIRS which is christened with the name of my hometown. Flown it only once, but saw it sometimes at FRA/MUC, once in final approach into HAM as I was waiting at a stoplight near the airport. For now, it is based at FRA.

For me the retro jets are the most obvious answer.

I've both on the UA (N475UA), the CO and the original LH A321 retro jet and see them all the time throughout UA region 1 and Europe, respectively.

Similarly, N194UA and D-ABYI stand out and I've seen them in a dozen different airports. Flying aboard D-ABYT is high on my list right now.

I seem to have a knack for scheduling DL (and NW before it) connecting flights where both are operated by the same aircraft (despite being neither a turn nor a direct flight with single flight number). A few examples that come to mind were MSP-SLC-SJC on the same 738, STL-SLC-GEG on the same 320, and STL-ATL-YYZ on the same M88.

I've also had a few instances with both DL and NW where I flew the same reg on consecutive flights inbound and outbound from the same point, but on different days. I had this happen on ATL-MCI / MCI-ATL, STL-MSP / MSP-STL, and ATL-BHM / BHM-ATL. The MCI flights were both M88, MSP was on the D93, and BHM was D95.

My first two 744 flights several years ago were MSP-NRT (en route to SIN) and MNL-NRT, which were both operated by N661US ten days apart. I then flew that same bird DTW-ICN a few years later. Coincidentally, all three departures took a 2-hour MX delay after boarding, so I'll be perfectly content not to be scheduled on that bird again.

It seems like whenever I'm at SLC, N633SK is too! So far I'm up to four flights on it. Another one I always seemed to either fly on or see was N171HQ- if I wasn't on it, it was always in Omaha, Washington or Denver whenever I happened to be.

On the other hand, N902ME managed to avoid me until 2008- it was slightly unique because at least to begin with, it had four stripes on both engines (the standard YX livery had four on the left and three on the right). However, from 2003 until the retirement of the 717s and shutdown of Midwest, I never got a flight on it or N928ME, Midwest's last!

Have flew on many many different aircraft 3 or 4 times,
others worthy of note are,

G-BLDV, BN-2B Islander Loganair X 9

SE-ISK S340A Salair X 5 ( LPI-ARN x 2 , CPH-LPI-CPH ,ARN-LPI),
was always this ship although saw many Salair 340's on the ramp
S2-ACW F28 Biman X4 (DAC-CGP-CXB-CGP-DAC)
G-BBAF L1011 Caledonian X 4(LGW-BAH-GOI-BAH-LGW) Rtn from GOI was a week apart.
S2-ACO DC10 Biman X 4 ( AUH-ZYL-DAC-CGP-DAC)

other strange ones are...

SE-DMD MD81 SK, x 1 then it was reregistered LN-RON as a MD 82 x 3
SE-DFY MD 81 SK x 2 then again re reg as LN-ROW as a MD82 x 2

Also took a JL 744 LHR-NRT, a month apart, and ended up coming back on the same aircraft JA8087

Flew 8 of the AA MD11's without ever a double, and 19 of the AA 772's without a double.

sure a.netters have loads more weird stories.

At the moment, my list of most flights on the same plane sits as.......

5 VH-OQJ
5 G-EUPA
4 VH-OQE
4 VH-OQK
3 G-BMAC
3 G-EUYJ
3 G-MIDS
3 G-EUUH
3 G-EUPN
3 G-EUPB
3 G-EUUM
3 VH-OQG
3 G-EUPL

However since my first trip to Australia in 2011 (and since then 2011x2, 2012x1, 2013x2, 2014x1 to NZ via Australia), every trip without fail I would see VH-OJA. Either at SYD or SIN, my first trip in 2011 I watched her take off from SYD and when we arrived at SIN, we parked next to her. I'm due to make my annual trip down under in 2 weeks time, I know she's been retired now, so that's one plane that won't be stalking me this time.

But the Qantas 737 Yananyi Dreaming follows me about.....Perth, Melbourne (twice) and Sydney (twice)

Another plane that follows me in Europe is the Aer Lingus retro A320. Last year on Wednesday I went to Milan and it followed my flight in. Saturday I was in Munich, as she appeared, then the following Saturday I was in Amsterdam....and yep she appears again.

Back when I worked for Delta at ATW, it seemed like we would get N606LR, an EV CRJ-900, at least once a week. This was back when EV only had about a dozen CRJ-900s, so the same ships would rotate through ATW pretty regularly, but it seemed like this one was more common than the others.

I ended up flying this bird from MSP to GRB in 2013 and have seen it at other airports many times, including DTW and ATL.

I have also flown two aircraft at least twice - N894AT, a Delta 717-200, on a round trip from DTW to PHL and a Delta A320 (I didn't catch the tail number) from DTW to SLC and SLC to PHX right afterwards.

RE: Encounter The Same Aircraft

BA Cityflyer's G-LCYN - the Embraer 190 with the James Bond-style 700th E-Jet logo on the nose. Every time I rock up at the gate at LCY, G-LCYN seems to be waiting for me! The most was three different flights to three different destinations on three different days in one week!

I've flown well over 10 times on this bird around the CJ network and It's almost like and old friend. I will be really sad the day it leaves the fleet and/or is reduced to recycling.

I collected quite a few flights on CX's fleet of 747-412 that were bought from SQ -- both before and after CX redid the interior. It was very strange sitting in the blue SQ Y seats with the full CX livery on the outside.

For some reason the two pax -412 seemed to find themselves on the HKG-JNB route a lot when that route was still flown with the 744.
