Just the 25 788s and 25 359s....UA was looking at a narrow body order but hadn't placed it.

Keep in mind, they should have close to 50 options out there they can exercise. I'd expect them to evaluate a top-up order at some point in the next few years.

UA added 10 to their 35J order for a total of 35.

Apologies if this has been answered in the past but I can only ⌘-F so far back in time.

Are the GUM aircraft being re-configured to match mainline aircraft or are they going to continue to be their own special subfleet?

Yes Guam aircraft will adopt standard mainland aircraft cabins. The -800 will be 16/150 with slimlines versus current 14/141. When required seats 1AB are the designated crew rest seats.

They however still be a subfleet operationally as aircraft will be equipped technically differently - Satcom, dual HF radios, nitro generating system, med/survival kits, corrosion treatment. Aircraft currently equipped with LiveTV will also have antennas removed prior to movement to Guam.

I can't find any public reference to these ship numbers. Is UA replacing all the -700s in GUM with -800s or will there be a mix of 700s and 800s based there?

Do you know if there'll be a Wi-Fi solution fitted? I'd assume the Panasonic's coverage area makes that vendor the only option for the GUM fleet but none of the 737 fleet is Panasonic-equipped.

Also, happy 15th a.net anniversary!

Aircraft #3293 is flying GUM with a different slimline config that is not shown on UA.com. Rows 14 and 15 are both shown with regular Y.

I assume the DirecTV seatback monitors are installed, amenities show "a variety of programs available". It looks like this doesn't mean AVOD? Looping content, I presume without WiFi.

If the DirecTv annteneas are removed, does that mean the bubble on the aircraft is gone, which would probably indicate Sattelite WiFi is not on the way for GUM aircraft.

Anyone have an update on 3293?

Is the GUM operation to left short 1 73G after these changes? NOTE: I see it looks like the net change is one 738 moving from GUM to mainland and one 73G moving from Mainland to GUM.

I noticed with the newest 737-900ER delivery, the one with the all-female crew, that there are now 3 window plugs on the port-side where there used to be 2 - the area between first and coach with the mid-cabin lavatory.

Is there a new configuration? I can't for the life of me believe Boeing delivers the plane with 3 window plugs and United adds one back.

Wow, that's a great catch.

The configurations are the same, but photos show the 3rd blocked window (just below the "T" in United started with N68811. My guess is the window is behind the last row of F and can't doesn't serve a purpose.

N68811 was the first sUA aircraft delivered with Slimlines. The lav must have been moved up a few inches as the F pitch is 37 vs. 38, picking up 5 or 6 inches.

I don't believe the window is blocked after slimlines are installed during reconfiguratiion. I see a photo of N77431 12/23/14 with scimitar winglets and still has the window under the "T". That aircraft exited the slimline mod on 12/16/14.

Understand, but there is a completely new LAV being installed on the latest 737-900ERs. It has curves to it, so they can stick another row of seats in or something like that. I'll check when I get around a newer 737-900ER.

Yup, and it's not shiny and so small that it might not get pilfered. Back when the ashtrays were must have items, had a few flights cancelled because the ashtray grew legs and walked away.

I imagine they will still just magically walk away.

Program for “New 54” 737‐900ER aircraft (465‐478; 801‐840). Will provide streaming Direct TV service to passenger PEDs.

Assume that means it's not going to be free like it currently is on the Airbii, etc?

Along with First Class Seat Replacement/Reconfig

So I'm guessing they'll be getting the same F seats as the 737s? If that's the case, there's going to be lots of unhappy former UA folks. Some people are very pro-Airbus F seats/anti-737 F seats, to the point of being purely irrational and pedantic. I always liked the old UA F seats, but I didn't notice a substantial difference in comfort to the CO one...with the exception of the newer seats, which are very stiff, although I suppose they're supposed to loosen up over time.

No idea...that's the first I have heard that they are looking at a DirecTV system of some type on those aircraft it was widely reported on here that UA was done with DTV installations ......all of those aircraft are 2013-2015 739ERs that have WiFi...
I know the voices in my head aren't real but sometimes their ideas are just awesome!!!

That is surprising that DirecTv would be provided by PED. That adds another system type to UA. And, do you charge for DTV via PED while you get free content on the Airbuses? Will people pay to view Live TV on their smart phones? Will there be some free content and if so, then why not some free content on 737's with DTV in seatbacks?

I would think it would make sense to add the Airbus type streaming content - I do notice the Airbus is Sat KU, same as other UA aircraft except the 737 fleet with Sat KA.

Are the GUM aircraft being re-configured to match mainline aircraft or are they going to continue to be their own special subfleet?
Quoting LAXintl (Reply 60):
Aircraft currently equipped with LiveTV will also have antennas removed prior to movement to Guam.
Quoting jetblastdubai (Reply 61):
I can't find any public reference to these ship numbers. Is UA replacing all the -700s in GUM with -800s or will there be a mix of 700s and 800s based there?
Quoting CONTACREW (Reply 64):
There will be a mix of -700s and -800s based in GUM. The 8 738s and 3 of the 4 73Gs based in GUM are returning to the mainland, while 7 mainland based 738s and 4 mainland based 73Gs will be sent to GUM.

As a lifelong sUA passenger, I must say the A319/320 FC seats and the 757 seats are by far my favorites. I really dislike the old style FC seats on the 737/738s. Even though they are somewhat oversized, I can never get comfortable and I seldom if ever use DTV even when it is free in FC. I do think the newer style FC seats on the 739ERs are a definite improvement over the 737/738 aircraft. Plus I really like the Boeing Sky Interior with the larger overhead storage bins.

Another question -- Could the sUA oversize storage bins on the retiring 757-200 aircraft be installed on the sCO 753 fleet? That would be a major improvement in passenger convenience in the never ending battle for overhead storage.

This is why United calls the streaming system "beta" because it's clearly not in its finished form. I'm guessing that while UA has an idea what they would like to charge for, but are keeping an open mind to what passengers will resist vs be willing to pay for. They are probably using this new subfleet to experiment with charging for parts or the whole system, and if they find people are actually paying for it all, they're probably hoping they can eventually charge to use the streaming system on any domestic plane. I certainly hope they would never consider charging for it on long haul.

UA wifi recently

There's Panasonic WiFi, LiveTV WiFi, and GoGo WiFi. Maybe one of 'em doesn't have the strict blocking the others do.

Probably not – it's probably just a software update on the LiveTV WiFi aircraft. On United.com the PDE page has been updated to add "some 737s an some 757s" as well as the regional jets + PS fleet. Curious to see if the PDE across the Panasonic, LiveTV, GoGo fleets is the same PDE or a different experience with the same name.
