Thanks for part 4, Ben!

So far, it's been a great year for MIA.

Most recent news:

Qatar Airways will stop sending the 77L after tomorrow. 77W replaces 5 weekly service. Daily from Nov 18, 2015.

Thomas Cook starts Manchester-Miami service this Sunday.

Turkish Airlines is highly rumored to start MIA this year.

Btw.. We should have more FLL and PBI news!

Happy part 4, everyone!

Minor FLL Update.

The jet blast fence for Terminal 4 West has started installation.
This will protect the aircraft parked at gate G-14 of the West Expansion from jet blast from gates F-2,F-4,and F-6 located at Terminal 3.

Construction has begun on the Terminal 1 150 foot curbside extension. This will provide more covered space for Tour/Port busses to load passengers. This extension will join with the nearly completed Canopies connection from T-1 to T-2.
The work on the canopies connection T-3 to T-4 continues and is expected to be finished later summer.
The T-2 to T-3 canopy opened last month.

Did you make that interview with Chris Mangos? They should fire him and hire the guy from IAH, who has been so successful at getting new airlines to fly there.

Also happening at FLL: Two new taxiways are scheduled to open tomorrow. Taxiways L and H.
TWY H is parallel to TWY J on the west end and TWY L is roughly midfield running north/south connecting TWY H with TWY B with two connections into Sheltair's main ramp.

I wonder if Chris Mangos is involved in talks with TK aswell? It seems to me that both QR and OS came to Miami on their own accord without Mangos and his incentive team luring them in. Am I wrong?

Yes, you are.

Chris Mangos is always working at his best to try and persuade airlines. He's always talking to multiple airlines.

February was FLL's 15th consecutive month of double-digit growth in international passenger traffic. Total traffic for the first two months of 2015 was up 10.6% yoy to 4.59 million. JetBlue experienced growth of 18.4% yoy in the two-month period and now accounts for 20.3% of total passengers at the airport. Spirit grew 10.4% and is the second largest carrier with 17.9% market share. Southwest's passenger numbers increased 8% but its market share decreased from 18.1% to 17.7% as a result of the strong growth of B6 and NK.

Does anyone know why TP goes daily to MIA in the summer whilst only 3x weekly in the winter? That's a major decrease. Will the route be axed once TP becomes privatized? On a separate note I have a feeling the TK announcement will happen sometime in May, as it is six months before the alleged November start date.

Not for a new airline? Not for a never served destination?

New service for an existing airline, not the airport's first to that destination...and DOMESTIC at that....have they always done this?

I was thinking the same thing, geez anything gets a water cannon salute. But remember the FD has to fire those cannons a certain amount of times in specific time frame, so it can be useful as well.

Retiring captains, new service, new equipment, etc.. If the airline requests a water salute for whatever reason, they are generally approved. This was the second one today for B6. They had one in the morning for their CLE flight.
Not too long ago when there was like 7 water salutes in one day at FLL.

Yes but my point is if LH cannot make MIA-MUC work year-round how is OS going to make MIA-VIE work year-round with an even smaller niche hub?

The 60 PDEW is without a non-stop flight - it will be stimulated quite a bit.

Also - LH group may have seen a good yield on connections through FRA/MUC/ZRH and decided to start it back up.

What's the PDEW for MIA-DOH? The OS route has plenty of connectivity at VIE to points in Central and Eastern Europe as well as North Africa and the Middle East to be a success. As adamh8297 notes above, local demand will also be stimulated.

It's very high in the sky. MIA officials are aware on the intention so it's not a rumor. Whether a deal gets finalized. That's the question.

Your right. Or maybe incentives is a better word. With destinations like IAD, BOS, SFO, IAH, where those places offering incentives, or did TK go on it's own initiative?

I have looked at using this service and fares quoted have been very low (less than $300 in peak season). I wouldn't be surprised if it only lasts one season but I hope to be proved wrong. It should do okay if it can gain some traction.

Condor are started the FLL route later this month just twice-weekly (Mondays and Fridays), increasing to thrice-weekly on June 30th (switches to Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays). Originally it was supposed to be 4 times per week.

I don't think NK was ever serious about MIA. My gut feeling tells me it was a negotiation ploy to get more favorable terms from FLL. Probably the same thing that Condor pulled.
