Some US Airways flights:

500 PHX-IND (Indy 500)

777 SNN-PHL

1776 PHL-BOS-PHL

Before the AA merger they ran a PHX-CLT flight number 1550, with a scheduled departure of 3:50pm.

Any flight that goes to AUS that has the flight number 316?

If I recall correctly, back before CVG was downsized, several of DL's CVG-SEA flights were numbered 727, 737, 747 etc. Can't recall the specifics, but I know the 1x daily that remains didn't keep any of those numbers...

SEA-DEN on AS/UA/WN/F9 420 would be fun...

Ironically it wasn't even a scheduled flight. It was supposed to be a ferry flight, then some pax from earlier cancellations were added at the last minute, IIRC.

NW777 flew MSP-LAS for years.

NW 88 flew PEK-DTW.

Not that it will ever happen, but wouldn't it be hilarious if the 744 N666US flew to HEL?

Along with the other airlines mentioned (CO, UA), I think DL's first CMH-LAX (or vice versa) was DL 1492.

DL 500 was ATL-IND at one point.

Skybus 777 was CMH-GPT. The Gulfport/Biloxi area of Mississippi has casinos.

Allegiant 614 is a flight into or out of LCK. 614 is Columbus' area code.

At one point, the F9 flight from DEN-GSO was #336, which is the area code for GSO. Also, the first flight of the day from DAB-ATL on DL used to be #366, which is the statute mileage between DAB and ATL.

Back in the 80s/90s, US Air operated flight 1492 through CMH (usually part of routings like SYR-DCA-CMH-LAX-SFO). Interestingly, US 1493 going the other direction was involved in the runway collision at LAX in 1991 with the OO Metro, which killed 35.

When Qantas used to number its flight JFK-LAX-SYD As QF 108 it was often referred to those taking the flight from LAX back to SYD at One-O-Late as it quite often late in departing when delayed arrival from JFK.
However since then the routing and flight number has changed.

It's kind of hard to explain without being an expert in linguistic terms, but I'll give it a shot. Imagine an owl's call as being something like t'wit-t'woo when written down. When the numbers of that flight are pronounced individually (i.e. two-eight-two-'o', not twenty-eight twenty), it becomes an approximation of the owl's call, although I'll grant that some imagination may be required!
