Would CX be allowed to fly straight through the Arabian middle east to reach TLV, or would those nations impose the same no-fly restriction for any flight bound for Israel ?

I think it's a really good idea and one with a lot of potential. TLV and the 350XWB make good sense. Even with the route they'd have to take, it should work very well

Not really, they would have to overfly China, Kazakh, Georgia, Turkey, before heading south towards Antalya and then heading into TLV

All the countries above recognize Israel, hence would allow an a/c to overfly, if it was headed to TLV

Another surprise pulled off by CX but something that holds a bit of merit. In 2014, 72,000 pax flew TLV-HKG-TLV with the average fare being $1900 round trip which means that there is good yield to be exploited here on point to point traffic alone.

The other big ASEAN markets that CX can tap into via HKG for TLV are as follows:

BKK...105K
ICN...22K
PVG...10K
NRT...12K
PEK...9K
SIN...13K
MNL...5K
TPE...5K
SYD...11K
MEL...12K

Please note that demand to TLV from MNL is not only 5,000 pax annually as majority of them who go on holy pilgrimages buy a return ticket to AMM or IST and then a seperate ticket to TLV on TK or RJ. Hence the number stated above of 5,000 does not reflect the real picture. CX's new potential service can definitely help further stimulate this demand on the MNL-TLV-MNL market sector along with Australia-TLV !

Jordan does not impose restrictions on airlines operating into Tel-Aviv, and since top-of-descent would not be any earlier, this is irrelevant for such a routing. Not sure what the situation over Iran is though, but even if Iran imposes restrictions, a route via the UAE and then directly onto Tel-Aviv is feasable (CPA already fly to OMDB anyways).

They don't have any aircraft that could operate a nonstop, and even a 77L can't do HKG-Brazil nonstop with a profit-potential payload.

Thus they'd have to do a 1stop... and why bother, when they can just put those people on AA's S.Am ops from both JFK and LAX, where CX already fly to many times daily.

Then again, the most efficient 1stop route within OneWorld would be HKG-DOH-Brazil, so perhaps CX and QR may work something out on there, should traffic further justify it.

Via where, YVR? I think it's faster via AUH, DXB, DOH, JNB or ADD. I also think CX can serve South America via it's partnership with AA routing over LAX or DFW.

Madrid would be a logical European city since its Iberia's hub and a great way for Cathay to connect to all of Latin America. LHR, DFW and JFK do not connect to as many Latin Cities as Madrid does. IF Cathay could fly to Miami then they could get all Latin America.

HKG-JNB-GRU is slighly shorter by GreatCircle measurement, but ever so slightly.
At the moment HKG-JNB by CX (and SA for that matter) have a roughly 4hour connection in JNB for JNB-GRU...the return is around 5 hours.
The connection in DOH and DXB might probably be shorter though?

Because DL already flies SEA-HKG doesn't mean a whole lot. As for connectivity with AS, SEA has far more spread. I will
never say "never" for CX's possibility of to PDX, but I think SEA is more likely.

HU is initiating service between SEA-Shanghai this summer. DL already flies the route.

Like you said, we'll see what happens. I would love to see CX at SEA.

CX would also be competing with OZ,KE,BR,HU,NH,DL and to a degree EK for SEA-Asia passengers. CX and AC are also just up the road at YVR.

From PDX they'd be competing with only DL nonstop to Asia, and DL's connections from NRT are continually dwindling.

We'll see if CX starts opening up secondary US markets as they have done in Germany most recently with DUS.

From what I remember reading, PDX was soliciting CX Cargo services as a distinct initiative to replace reductions of ocean-going shipping. PDX is probably not a big enough market for a dedicated passenger flight, but it could be worth considering with the AS feed without cannibalizing their YVR flight (which a short drive to SEA would do).

Both cities are actually quite out of the way, and there is already and CA already flies PEK-MAD-GRU and SQ flies SIN-BCN-GRU, and TAM and IB are on these final legs as well.

A more direct route between HKG and GRU or GIG would fly closer to DEL or NBO, and be much shorter than a route through Europe. I don't know that either of these routings -- or a routing through Europe or N. America for that matter -- would compete effectively against the Middle Eastern carriers. A DEL-GRU sector would be at the edge, or more likely beyond, the range of a 777W, and no doubt the route authority would not be forthcoming either.
