PK 705 - 50 Years Ago

Wed May 20, 2015 8:31 pm

A note of remembrance for the victims among the passengers and crew of PIA flight 705 which crashed on approach to Cairo Airport 50 years ago today, May 20th 1965, on its inaugural service from Karachi to London Heathrow via intermediate stops at Dhahran, Cairo and Geneva operated by B720-040B: AP-AMH

Pakistan International Airlines Flight 705

A day that changed so may lives, including for my mother-in-law whose own mother was an invited dignatory on board - who perished - and whose father, 1 of only 6 survivors, boarded at the last minute when space became available and who subsequently lived until the ripe old age of 95, passing away late last year.

Gone but not forgotten - may they rest in peace.

Cairo was being relaunched by this flight, the guests were for that, according to all accounts related to the incident.

According to the PIA fan board it was also an inaugural flight for Dhahran.

There was live cargo onboard of monkeys that survived, pic of some amongst the wreckage http://www.historyofpia.com/board/may_15/pk_may20e.jpg

learn something new everyday on Anet...was just reading some old articles and it appears that some relatives/associates of the pax and crew didn't know about the crash until 3 or 4 days later when they finally received word by telex - wow: how the world has changed...
