Emirates will have a free 77L by February 1st. And apparently MIA is in the works for 2016 (of what I was told).   

MIA officials have been knocking on the door more and more often as the days go by.


Trust me on this, I'm annoyed as most of you all with the 'Emirates to MIA' talk. But let's hope it get done sooner rather than later.

With both QR and TK now at MIA, I think the chances of EK coming to MIA are slim. The market is not big enough for all three carriers. If EK comes, then when of those two other carriers has to leave.

EK will take feed from AV group, AM, BW, CM, and LA/JJ groups as well in MIA. There's probably a couple more I missed and a few that would be added when DXB-MIA is added.

Not entirely true. It is no secret EK will serve MIA in the near future. Yes, the market has Turkish and Qatar but Emirates likes to compete. And in my mind, there's no doubt EK wants to protect the market share. I wouldn't be surprised if Emirates comes to MIA next year because the market has proved itself and it keeps on growing. EK to MIA is not a matter if but a matter of when. It may happen at a low frequency too (maybe 4-5 weekly). Only time will tell.

1-stop connectivity from these flights is often the bigger impact. MIT just did a study in the importance rise of 1-stops in the role of overall global connectivity. It has been said from people at MIA that Etihad seems more likely than Emirates at the moment. But as I mentioned above, Emirates is in talks for a 2016 start. Would be interesting to see if both EY and EK come into the MIA the same year, but I highly doubt that.

Yes, true. Some people don't realize that TK serves more countries than any other airline.

It's not a matter of if, but when for EK starting service to MIA. Unless the US government steps in and slaps restrictions on them, it's going to happen. Just look at all of the planes they have on order. By 2020-2021, they should be serving every major US city and MIA is a glaring hole in their US network.

EK can start flying into MIA tomorrow and go A380 by December if they wanted too, for EK loads and competition don't matter. They fly double daily to SEA and BOS, two of their most underperforming routes and put an A380 on DXB-DFW a route with a 38-42% load factor. EK isn't in the business of competing, they don't have too. But by all means bring on DXB-MIA, I would fly through DXB in a heart beat for that exceptional service.

Wrong and wrong. SEA and BOS are great additions in EK's network. And its obvious EK sent an A380 to compete.

I'm not saying SEA and BOS are bleeding sores in the EK network, and after rereading my post I see where the confusion comes in. I'm just that they don't warrant double daily flights.

The SEA flight has always "made its money" off cargo with the amount of passengers is far behind that of EK's other US routes. I could be wrong but the last I heard was that SEA was the under performer in the US, of course not as bad as DFW.

The reason I say BOS is a different story, again, I could be wrong. From what I recall, and from what my travel agency friends (not aviation experts) in Boston have told me is that the flight started as a power house and then became a midlevel performer. This would make some sense, considering that immediately after EK entered to market, everybody and their mother started flights to BOS which impacted EK's competitive advantage. That the 85% load factors that where preached during launch down slowly dwindled as the market became more saturated and the introductory fares seized. Lastly, I remember reading somewhere that the addition of the second BOS flight was because EK wanted to further stimulate the market being well aware that a second BOS flight was not warranted based on current numbers.

I could be very wrong, but this is where my statements came from. Anyway, I hope EK starts MIA, getting to East Asia is a disaster from MIA if you're not flying on QR.

So it's confirmed that MIA-FRA is a seasonal route? On another thread it was mentioned that the route had gone seasonal due to poor advanced bookings.

Speaking of MIA-Europe on AA metal, any guess if they will be adding any new service? Right now they have BCN, MAD, MXP, LHR, FRA and CDG and I believe all are flown daily year round, with the exception of FRA.

MIAFRA was always seasonal and never available for booking past September.

According to their Facebook page, VivaColumbia is set to announce flights to MIA.

Shortly after it was known that AA will be starting 777-200ER service to CDG from MIA; they will also be sending they 777-200ER (3-class) to MXP.

Both CDG and MXP will see the 777-200ER from November 5th.

It is unknown when they'll announce their new routes. And no one knows where they will fly.


MIA was rumored before DC was announced. So we'll see. I'm betting that MIA will be one of their new routes.

What I don't understand is why they didn't move the titles up to the front of the fuselage. It looks randomly thrown in the middle the way it is. But then again, I don't get a lot of things Spirit does!

I stashed a couple of water bottles in my car.   I'm used to it, anyway, having been living in FLL since 2000.

Speaking of the Hibiscus Garage, I actually parked my set of wheels there last Friday morning on my trip to CMH, right near the spotting area, so I could spot for a bit before heading off to Ohio. And I have to say, Spirit seems like it has 70 liveries:

I swear I did not intentionally include the Hilton Property Yellow Shuttle Bus with NK's Yellow Airbus!  The B6 320 is an arrival from some international destination.

I wonder if they are going to paint the whole fleet yellow? I actually like all of their liveries, but the Pixel Gray is my favorite as I am a huge fan of classic 16-bit video games like those from the NES.

The plan is indeed to paint the whole fleet, unfortunately. I only wanted to see ONE a321 in the white and blue scheme, but I guess that's not happening

SWISS recently announced their 77W destinations. MIA was not one of them, although I've been told they do plan to send the 77W to MIA in the future.

I had a very brief chat with the UA station manager at FLL, who hinted that FLL-CLE-FLL and FLL-IAD-FLL may come back, but these are only rumors.

Some interesting facts about United's operation at FLL:

-FLL is the last remaining mainline employee station in Florida besides Orlando - McCoy (MCO). While PBI is still mainline, it is going to be outsourced in the coming months.

-FLL's Mainline UA employees, including ticketing agents, rampers, club staff (except for bartenders and janitorial), and gate CSAs all have a stunning seniority of 31 years with either PMCO, PMUA, or a predecessor.

-United hasn't hired any employees at their FLL station since August 2008, when it was a purely Continental station.

-FLL is the only station in Florida besides MCO to feature a United Club, and is in fact the smallest station to have a United Club throughout the entire UA Global network.

-FLL is the largest station in South Florida for United.

MIA-PLS will see 2x daily 738 and 1x E75 from Aug 25 - Sept 7, 2x daily E75 and 1x 738 take over as of now for OCT schedule. I am sure we will see more tweaking soon.

VivaColombia will be starting flights to MIA, starting December 2nd.

Flights will be daily from Bogota and Medellin to Miami on an A320.

Correct, however, that photo is at Fort Lauderdale - Hollywood International Airport / Broward County International Airport (IATA: FLL, ICAO: KFLL), not MIA.
