Sadly, the real Eastern went bust in January 1991 -- before many valuable contributors on here were born. If this Eastern had named itself something else would anybody care? Assuming "Pink Seats" and "PTV AVOD" weren't in the name, of course...

True to an extent, but consider the fact that the estate of the original Eastern not only refused other offers to buy their intellectual property so they could sell to the Ed Weigel "Eastern Air Lines Group" but it also holds a small ownership position in EALG as well.
So as far as I'm concerned, there's plenty of "original Eastern" that survives in this new entity.

Good article, very positive. I think the new Eastern Airlines has a chance, however it will not be easy. I hope they hire people with very innovative ideas.

Sad to say that many of our forum members have shot down this new Eastern already and have maintained this attitude to this day despite the fact that others on our forum have noted that this effort has moved step by step in a careful and methodical approach. It should be noted that Eastern acquired its own aircraft and gradually will get more. At the same time there was never this level of criticism when People Express hit the pavement having to rely on another airline's aircraft and flopped almost immediately. I think the critics of this new Eastern should take a step back and just observe for a while.

Are you kidding? For every one delusional ("positive") post on PE there were ten that ridiculed the operation.
In this industry, one has to default to the assumption that any new operation isn't going to make it anywhere.

I still wish they had bought A320s, instead of 737, because the original Eastern, had A300s, so it would have been cool, to see them with the smaller narrow body sibling. Also, I was happy, that the old EA, did not have 737s, so now I have to deal with the EA livery, on a 737.
Well, it is their airline, and they can do what they want with it.

The number 1 to the sun is back, and although I hardly knew about EA when they originally folded, I'm also confident about them doing well in the future. I don't think this is the relaunch of PA all over again.

They are intending to operate as a Full Service type carrier, with a slightly higher quality of service than the Legacies. Their aircraft are being configured for First Class (U.S. Domestic style) and Coach. I'm not sure how their charter flights are sold, however.

Congratulations to Eastern. Awesome to see the ol' hockey stick livery fly again! They should have put the old Whisperliner or Whisperjet on the engine nacelles. It looks like they may be well placed to take advantage of the recently thawed relations between the US and Cuba.

They're not even listed on MIA's airport website under "Flight Info" (click "Airline Directory"). Weird. Also under "Flight Info" (click on "Flight Arrivals/Departures real time") their code is EE. You can see it by clicking on "All Airlines" drop down menu. Do they not use EA?

The Whisperjet is the 727 and the Whisperliner then L-1011. That being said, if they were to buy a 777-9x somewhere down the line, they could call it the Whispercruiser.

Surinam Airways is hardly a big airline so it won't be them or that partnership. They operate the 737-300 and not the -400. The 737-300 does have the legs to operate some flights from NY to the Caribbean as Avensa used to fly the 737-300 from JFK to CCS at the time they still existed so it's doable but probably weight restricted.

Why endure the nightmare and congestion of LAX when BUR, LGB, ONT & SNA is so much easier to fly in and out of. Same with OAK & SJC when it comes to SFO.

AFAIK it has been said that they do use EE, but looking at Flightradar24, having searched movements for their own aircraft, they use as IATA code EA.

IATA themselves show "Eastern Airlines Inc" as using EE. IATA do show EA as not being assigned, but it might not be ready for re-assignment yet.

If THIS iteration of the Classic EASTERN want's to stay in business for more than a few years, it needs to do ONE thing and be firm about it. Absolutely NO Unions should be allowed on property. Union greed and corruption was a major factor in their demise.
Of course, I acknowledge that Frank Lorenzo was another major factor in the equation......He shouldn't be allowed anywhere NEAR the new company either! With his massive ego, can there be any doubt that he'd love to snatch it up (again!)?
