Swiss Aviation Thread #39

Wed Jun 03, 2015 7:46 am

Let's go for another round !

As LX pulled out of EAP / BSL some flights are being taken over by others.
This summer there will be a SkyWork flight from BRN via BSL to LCY with a leased Saab 2000 from Darwin. First it will be 6x weekly and from August 31 12x weekly.
The timetable from BRN won't be changed, so there will be BRN - SEN too. But they will review it later this year, if they will switch back to LCY instead.

On another LCY-Switzerland note:

- Helvetic is now operating two of six daily LX flights to LCY with their recently acquired E190s.

- BA Cityflyer will offer 18/7 flights between GVA and LCY from September using E170 aircraft.

Quite a sight on FR24: Most of tonights (June 7) late night departures had a delay of at least one hour, quite possibly due to the thunderstorms around here. However, LX138s flight path caught my eye as it departed RWY16, made the 270° turn, overflew Waldshut and up to Titisee-Neustadt, where it made a 180° and flew over Zurich towards Innsbruck. LX178 took off RWY16 as well, made the left turn towards the west, overflew the region of Sursee from where it turned east.
Especially LX138 makes me wonder, if weather alone was the contributing factor for this routing.
Good day to you sir! Please turn left, your seat is in the first row.

Hey guys,

Sorry to ask, maybe it has been answered already. Does anyone know what cabin LX will have featured in their future B77W and CSeries? I assume CSeries will have touch screen as it is now commun on some short haul aircraft, but will the 777 have a new F and J product? Can we also imagine a new premium?

Back in the days, SR used to be that kind of airlines which introduces new product, even Airbus and other aircraft manufactor workt on some models according to SR's need, like the 743 or the 345.

It may be time for LX to introduce a F class like never seen before!

What do you guys think?

It seems to be the norm on some airlines in the US, but on intra-EU shorthaul flights it's not a common sight. Flights are generally rather short which also doesn't really justify the additional weight and care/maintenance of these systems. Therefore, I'd be VERY surprised to see personal screens on the CS100.

There will be no new J class, but the F will be new as the formerly new F is full of engineering problems. The decision on premium economy and 10 or 9 abreast in economy are not yet finalized.

70 min, not that bad as LX138 departure time was around midnight.
Was staying at the balcony and watched the lighting show and the departing widebodies.
In my point of view the engine sound was much more powerful as normal.

As mentioned above, SkyWork Airlines will launch LCY from Basel and Bern, 12 weekly with Saab2000:

BRN-BSL-LCY: 06:25-07:00/07:20-07:40

LCY-BSL-BRN: 08:10-10:35/10:55-11:25

BRN-BSL-LCY: 16:25-17:00/17:20-17:40

LCY-BSL-BRN: 18:10-20:35/20:55-21:25

Nearly perfect flight times, at least to/from Basel.

Also it seems that easyJet will further expand from Basel. Rumours indicate a 10th Airbus to be based at EAP as per winter 15 or spring 16 timetable.

Hi everybody!

LX will start receiving B777s next year, IIRC. I've been reading about enhancements to the B777-300ER which will make it more efficient (about 5%) in order to catch a few more orders they need before they start producing the 777X.

I just wonder if the B777-300ERs Swiss is getting in 2016 are optimised according to this article.
Does anybody know?

Along with several performance improvements, the CS100s max seating is now officially listed as 133 (@ 28") and 120 (@ 32"). According to LXs website, 121 seats will be installed (instead of formerly 125). Might still change though, who knows..

SWISS converts 10x CS100 into CS300 as expected.

CS300 will have 145 seats in LX-config, whereas the CS100 will have 125 seats.

That was always the plan when they ordered 30 CS was to replace 20 Avros and the 5 A319s.

I wonder whether as the 5 A319s pretty much always operate from GVA, whether LX won't base the first 10 CS-100s at Geneva. Would certainly reduce complexity and remove all Airbus and Avros from the GVA base.

Not true, these A319's are flying through the whole network on a daily basis.

As already planned and being executed. First A319's have already left the fleet in favour of new 320's. Remaining 5 are to be replaced with CS300's.
The whole conversion for 10x CS100 into 10xCS300 was already a public secret for morethan a year or two

Did you hear any rumor about this?
I don't see how LX could order the Q400, I guess with the C-Series they can offer pretty much every route by them self - so they can then fly more routes with wet-leased aircrafts like Helvetic or AUA.
But that's down to the contract with the pilot union, I don't know what the max number is for wet leased flights.

I was just raising the idea...

Besides LUG, LYS, STR, NUE already operated with Q400 from OS, LUX, GRZ and LJU could also be operated with props.

And such frames could help opening new short routes such as TRN, VRN, MRS, INN, SZG...

Yes it's a good point.
But as I said, I think they will fly all those routes with the C-Series and then use the wet leased for new routes and smaller markets.

As part of their expansion plan, which was presented today, LOT announced its intention to once again fly between ZRH and WAW with 2 flights per day in each direction starting sometime in 2016.

Also, tonight, the LX website will be down for an hour as they will load their new fare system.
After that, LX will offer three different Y fares on European flights:

- Economy Basic: Luggage only included for a fare of CHF 19/ EUR 15; Seat reservation can be done for fee of CHF 12 / EUR 10; no rebooking possible
- Economy Classic: Luggage and seat reservation included; rebooking possible for fee
- Economy Flex: 50% additional miles and rebooking possible for free

It will be interesting to see if and how this change will affect the initial prices from ZRH.

A short resume of the updates SWISS has given around the 77W entry-into-service project :

6 77W's will replace the oldest A343's on a 1-to-1 basis, these 343's will be returned to the lessor(s).
3 additional 77W's will also replace 3 A343's but these A343 frames will go to Edelweiss after re-config to C/Y+/Y lay out.

The 77W ops will look as follows :

ZRH-JFK days x246 ( LX014 - LX017 ) effective 21FEB16 until 25MAR16
ZRH-YUL daily eff 27MAR16
ZRH-HKG days 357 eff 10APR16 // x46 eff 03MAY16 // daily eff 12MAY16
ZRH-LAX daily eff 09JUN16

Reservations of these flights are opened.

Configuration of the 77W's will be :

8 F / 62 C / 270Y

So far no indication of a Y+ product on the 77W's.

please refrain from the 3-3-3 vs. 3-4-3 lay out in this topic as this discussion takes place in other threads already.

What will happen to the last 6 A340s after 6 goes to the lessor and 3 to Edelweiss? If I'm right SWISS ordered 9 B777?

So far no replacement order have been placed, although some voices indicate that the replacements might be included in a LH group order for the 77X.
This has not been confirmed nor denied by any official publications so far.

Amazing to see the amount of seats offered from ZRH to ATH this summer. On weekends there are 4 LX flights with A321 and a daily Aegean A320.

Btw, does anybody know the status of LX cabin retrofits for the A320s and A321s? When are these expected to be completed?
