Report: Westjet Takes 5th Ex-QF 763ER

Thu Jun 04, 2015 1:41 pm

Quoting DeltaB717 (Reply 25):
WJ is getting GE-engined ex-QF aircraft, not RR. The MSNs quoted in the first post correspond to:
* 387 ex VH-OGI
* 396 ex VH-OGJ
* 402 ex VH-OGL
* 549 ex VH-OGN
* 710 ex VH-OGT

All of those are GE (the RR were all ZXA-ZXG). OGT was one of the international configured frames so spent a lot of its time on HNL runs (also Asian runs before they went to A330 or were ceased). The other 4 spent a lot of time on PER and DRW runs, CNS too, as opposed to the Golden Triangle. Not saying they don't have their fair share of cycles but they certainly weren't pushed as hard as the frames that DID spend most of their time on the triangle (such as the RR).

Interesting, the CP 763s were GE powered. Sure miss those in CP colors....

Actually whiteguy Westjet did announce the purchase of these birds back on July 29, 2014. Here is the link to Westjet's blog. http://blog.westjet.com/adding-boeing-767-300-aircraft-fleet/

Thanks but I was referring to the purchase of the 5th aircraft. And I'm still not 100% sure about that. Nothing has been said externally or internally and the current pilot agreement only covers up to a maximum of 4 aircraft. Never know I guess but nothing so far.

I'm questioning this as well. I've seen or heard nothing about a 5th airplane. I wonder if people are confused because WS is registering VH-OJI as C-FOGT causing people to think that WS is also getting VH-OGT.

Ill wait for official confirmation from WS

As has been mentioned several times in this thread, these are NOT the RR powered aircraft going to Westjet, they are 5 of the many PW powered frames that QF ordered direct from Boeing. Just in case you guys missed the replies.

No they're not PW-powered. They're GE-powered. That's been mentioned several times already.

QF's B767-238 were P&W powered, hence the confusion I guess.

The next European point to be opened from YVR will be YVR IST by TK expecting Government approval on the Air Service Agreement. It will hopefully materialize in the next 18 months....

YYZ is still 6x weekly and YUL only 3x weekly. Any chance these will go daily before opening up YVR?

AC is code sharing with TK and flies additional flights to IST from YYZ. I wouldn't be surprised if TK goes daily. I have no idea how YUL is doing, I don't remember anyone mentioning it to me. I expect YVR not to start at daily but probably 3x per week. It all comes down to what the traffic estimates are. TK might pick up some SeaTac traffic from YVR.

Is it correct the familiarization flights will be out of YYZ to YVR for the 763?

According to the Alice Springs Aircraft Storage park website VH-OGT ferried to Paya Lebar for freighter conversion, not for WestJet.

The data provided in reply #35 is the same for -OGN and -OGT.

Sorry but I'm not convinced -OGT is heading to WS.

Qantas source isn't accurate also :

The aircraft is variously reported as being prepared for further service with WestJet of Canada and being converted to a freighter.

The thread subject says "WS has confirmed" a 5th 763. Where has WS confirmed this? I can find nothing official from any WS source. A 3rd party fleet database is not WS..

Remember that ALL 763-GEs started as 'international aircraft'. OGV may have been a 'tasman' config from that start, with 20 dreamtime (international J) seats before being an all-Y aircraft for QF domestic, then AO. It was then, of course, domestic mid-galley (2 class) aircraft until retirement.

Ex QF VH-OGI, OGJ & OGL, also flew in QFs subsidiary airline 'Australian Airlines', which was a dedicated Australian East Coast, to Japan services. These aircraft were an ochre/orange colour with a black kangaroo. I'm sure by the time that QF retired these classic birds there was 3 different layouts and 2 different schemes amongst them (ok 3 including OGG that had the Planes livery on it). I always enjoyed photographing them when I could.

Where does the website "Airfleets.net" get its information from? Has msn 29117 listed as "Due" to Westjet. Or is this more assumption on behalf of the website manager?

The site does have 2 frames with different MSN listed as C-OGT

Actually it all comes down to the bilateral. Turkey is a restricted bilateral and changing that is not necessarily a fait accompli in the Canadian environment.

I think it's the fact that one of the aircraft is going to registered C-FOGT and its assumed it's VH-OGT when in fact it's VH-OGI. Not sure how the website works but looks like members can update info once signed in.

As I said before the pilot agreement covers up to 4 aircraft so far for the trial, I'd be surprised if more were added without any communication to the employee groups. Everything has been communicated so far including the purchase of the 4 aircraft.

If I'm wrong i apologize, would be good if more are added for sure but I think it'll be later down the road.

So as far as we can tell two out of four will have the same last three letters in their Canadian registrations as when they were in Australia:

VH-OGI--->C-FOGT / VH-OGJ--->C-FOGJ / VH-OGL--->C-FWAD / VH-OGN--->C-GOGN

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

Does WS have any plans to send those 767's to the Caribbean during the winter season? I'm hoping for YYZ-SXM. I'm guessing YYZ-CUR is a (very) longshot...

Winter 2015/16 they will be operating YYC/YEG-HNL/OGG and some YYC-YYZ flights. Should be an announcement regarding plans for summer 2016 schedule in the next few months.
