BKG Gets MD 83

Thu Jun 04, 2015 9:43 pm

The BKG-MSY-CUN route is switched from 50 seats to 150 via Orange Air's MD-83 at 3x weekly

Lost business for XNA for sure as the article shows.

Actually it is correct. When the route first started a few weeks back it was being flown by Elite Air with an ERJ. The Orange Air MD-83 finally started flying in the last couple of weeks.

Quoting RJNUT (Reply 1):

While the articles that announced this service in Jan mentioned the MD 83 and service that began on May 6, it appears some other plane had been used between then and now.

Elite Airways CRJ flew the route for several weeks.

MSY-CUN generally blocked at 1h55m, give or take. It had to basically follow the mouth of the Mississippi River out for a ways heading towards FL before making a turn toward CUN. It couldn't go directly over the Gulf. CRJ MSY-CUN? Not a flight I'd want to be on.
Spread hope like fire.

And I bet that the 50 seats were still way more than what was needed, especially out of BKG. Just my opinion....
Riddle: Which lasts longer, a start-up airline or a start-up football league?

“They’ve got a 90 percent-full, much bigger jet(MD83) going out today.”

Aside from XNA trying to attract "Orange Air", I don't know what expectations would be. None of the majors would touch these routes.
